Sharp looking forward to spin off its smartphone LCD panel division

Sharp is planning to spin off its smartphone LCD panel unit owing to financial downslide. The Tokyo based company is seeking help from government-supported Innovation Network Corp. of Japan to invest in its small and medium LCD unit, sources told The Wall Street Journal and Reuters. As per the report, the move will reportedly happen during the company's current fiscal year i.e. by next March. Government backed Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) could fund the new corporation with 100 billion yen ($840 million). Sharp's display unit provides about one-third of the company's sales and Sharp has denied plans to sell the unit. The report further stated that Sharp still wants to retain a majority ownership of the LCD unit. A company spokesperson said that while it is looking at various options for its LCD panel business, a final decision has not been made. Sharp is expected to report third annual net loss in four years and has been trying to negotiate its second major bailout since 2012, said Reuters. The company developed ultra sharp 4.1 inch LCD display with 736ppi in November last year.

Myntra to shut down website from May 1st, only app purchase available

Customers will not be able to shop from Myntra's website as the fashion portal is shutting down its website on May 1st, as per a report from The Economic Times. Myntra will now be a mobile app retailer and allow purchase only from its dedicated mobile app. The move comes from Myntra as it draws 80% of its traffic and 70% of sale from mobile app. This marks the first time an e-commerce platform is heavily betting on its mobile only presence owing to increasing usage of mobile shopping. Myntra had said in February that it may shut down its website once its mobile traffic reaches 90% of the total sales. As per the report, there is a 360-degree advertising and marketing campaign being planned by Myntra for announcing its app-only presence, which is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks. Flipkart, which acquired Myntra in May last year may also follow suit if the experiment goes down well with the fashion e-tailer. Both Flipkart and Myntra have already stopped their mobile websites from directing visitors to their respective apps.

Google in talks with Three mobile operator for cheap international calls

Google is said to be in talks with Hutchison Whampoa, the owner of the mobile operator Three to make overseas calling cheap, as per a report from The Telegraph. The main aim for the talks is to allow US users to access their phones internationally at no extra costs. Google is reportedly planning to create a global network that will charge the same cost for calls, text message and data irrespective of the customer location. If the collaboration with the Hutchison takes place, Google could gain wholesale access to mobile service in the UK, Ireland, Italy and several more countries where the Hong Kong conglomerate owns mobile networks. Moving on, the report states that Google is also seeking to eliminate roaming charges for Three customers. Google announced its plans to launch a mobile network last month. The tech giant will not build mobile masts but rely on wholesale deals to use existing infrastructure both at home and abroad. This move will put pressure on the pricing of America’s biggest mobile operators, AT&T and Verizon, who enjoy higher profit margins than their European counterparts. In addition, the "small scale project", as Google calls it, could encourage operators to invest in new technology to improve mobile coverage via ...

The phone also has USB on-the-go (OTG) support that lets you connect a pen drive to it. You can even use a USB hub to connect a keyboard and a mouse to the phone. The Micromax Canvas Selfie is one of the first mid range phones to completely embrace the selfie revolution, with the same 13 MP camera on both sides. But as we have seen earlier, megapixels do not always mean better images. So, to find out if the Canvas Selfie is good enough, we pitted it against the HTC Desire 820, a higher-priced mid-range smartphone. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK04C-k4ZqA The Desire 820 comes with an 8 megapixel front facing camera and a BSI sensor, while the Micromax Canvas Selfie comes with a 13 megapixel camera that sports a f2.0 autofocus lens along with a Sony BSI sensor. Mitt Romney's NCAA Bracket Is Ridiculously Good

Known for his success in many facets of life, no one has ever accused Mitt Romney of being a college basketball expert.

But humbling as it may be, Romney’s NCAA tournament bracket this year is almost certainly better than yours. A Romney source passed along the former Massachusetts governor’s 2015 bracket, and it is in astoundingly strong shape.

How strong?

Out of 11.57 million brackets filled out in ESPN.com’s Tournament Challenge, Romney is in 25,485th place -- good enough for the 99.98th percentile. By contrast, the famously basketball-savvy President Barack Obama sits all the way back in 6,918,578th place (the 40th percentile).

Romney’s 2015 March triumph comes three years after he declined to fill out a bracket in the midst of the 2012 campaign. "I'm not plugged in well enough this year to do that," a deferential Romney said at the time.

This year, apparently, he was plugged in well enough.

romney bracket

Romney picked six of the Elite Eight teams correctly, as well as the Final Four and the final game between Duke and the University of Wisconsin, which Romney plans to attend on Monday night (he was also on hand at the Final Four games on Saturday night).

And in a dramatic show of confidence, he filled out just one bracket and did not even pick a final score for the title game -- a metric that is used to settle tiebreakers. Romney was just that confident about this year’s picks.

And sorry, Badgers fans. Romney picked Duke to win it all.

CORRECTION: Romney picked six of the Elite Eight teams correctly, not all eight as originally stated.

TDP not pursuing AP’s spl status issue with Centre

YSR Congress today said the ruling TDP is not taking the Opposition into confidence and is reluctant to press the Centre for special category status to Andhra Pradesh.  “The state government has never taken Opposition parties into confidence on the issue of special status and has never raised the subject on leading a delegation to Delhi on the issue.

There are conflicting and confusing reports from the Centre on the special status (issue),” party MLA B Rajendranath Reddy said here.  Stating that special status would benefit Andhra Pradesh in getting more Central grants and funds besides rapid industrialisation, Reddy said, “The TDP government is not pressing for it though it was clearly mentioned in the AP Reorganisation Bill.”

The assurance of special status was given by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Rajya Sabha, where senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh and others were also present, he said in a release.  “The issue also had the Cabinet nod and was sent to Finance Commission,” he claimed.

“Now Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely is telling that we have to look into it if Andhra Pradesh can be covered under the provisions of special category or not. This is not in good taste. The BJP and its ally TDP trumpeted during electioneering that BJP will grant special status which will propel the state towards development,” the release quoted him as saying.

“But, now they have changed the tune and TDP is totally silent and does not discuss the issue any more, which gives rise to doubts that it is not talking on the issue as it has to cover up its own fallacies which include the irregularities in the capital formation and the Pattiseema projects,” he alleged.

“The state government has its own priorities and has been pursuing with its hidden agenda of benefiting its favoured few in the capital formation and Pattiseema project. It has involved some private players from Singapore, for obvious reasons,” the YSR leader further alleged.

Edward Snowden Explains How The Government Can Get Your 'Dick Pic' During Interview With John Oliver

Former NSA contractor Edward Snowden sat down for an interview with comedian John Oliver nearly two years after he leaked classified documents about U.S. government surveillance programs and fled to Russia to escape prosecution.

"I do miss my country. I do miss my home. I do miss my family," Snowden said.

Oliver, the host of HBO's "Last Week Tonight," encouraged Snowden to explain bulk surveillance in colloquial terms so the general public could better understand it. He showed Snowden a video of Americans who were concerned that the government improperly intercepted nude photos, or "dick pics," as part of its mass surveillance programs.

Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge Bends Under The Same Pressure As The iPhone 6 Plus

Remember "Bendgate"? As our smartphones get bigger, they get more fragile -- and Apple's not the only company whose phones break under pressure.

SquareTrade, an electronics insurance company, used its own "bend bot" to put the new Samsung S6 Edge, the new HTC One M9 and the iPhone 6 Plus to the same pressure test. Watch the video here:

The robot works by putting pressure in the center of the smartphone until it bends or breaks. Even though Apple had to deal with a huge controversy about the iPhone 6 Plus bending under pressure, Samsung's new smartphone bent at the same point.

The iPhone 6 Plus bent at 110 lbs. of pressure, and it completely broke at 179 lbs.

The Galaxy S6 Edge also bent at 110 lbs., and its screen cracked at that point.

The smartphone was still functional with a broken screen, though, and the Galaxy didn't completely break until it was under 149 lbs. of pressure.

The HTC One M9 bent and broke at 120 lbs of pressure, since the phone's power button is on its side, right where the smartphone bent. You can't use a phone without a power button.

"Is this 'Bendgate 2'?" SquareTrade asks in the video. "No, but for Samsung fans it may be worse. Instead of a bent phone, they may have a pocket full of glass."

Here are the three phones after they've reached their breaking points, with the HTC on the left, Samsung in the middle and Apple on the right:

galaxy s6 edge bend

Apple received harsh criticism last September when some users discovered that the iPhone 6 Plus, the tech giant's largest smartphone to date, could be bent under a seemingly small amount of pressure. Even though the controversy didn't stop people from buying the 6 Plus, "Bendgate," combined with operating system glitches, did damage Apple's stock in the midst of the drama.

Heroine turns averse to Bikini

Nayantara mesmerized her fans and common audience with her super sleek figure in bikini some years ago in Prabhas’ Billa. However the actress is now staying completely away from the sexy costume saying that she is no longer convenient with it. It is said that the actress is imposing a condition to her makers that she will not be donning that costume at any cost in their future projects.

She is also not agreeing to act in too much of erotic and romantic scenes. She is insisting on keeping this conditions in the agreement itself. However this conditions are also proving to be counter productive for her career. Producers of Mass films are shying away from her due to these conditions.

Post her fall out with Prabhudeva, Nayantara is also being very selective in her films. She is mostly confined to Tamil cinema where she is still the most in-demand heroine. She only acted in Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum and Anamika in Telugu after that.

Woman Can Serve Divorce Papers Via Facebook, Judge Rules

NEW YORK (AP) — A judge has given a New York City woman permission to file for divorce from her elusive husband via a Facebook message.

The woman's lawyer says the ruling was made by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper.

The Daily News (http://nydn.us/1NNmPgs ) says Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku will be served with the divorce summons via a private Facebook message. It will be repeated once a week for three consecutive weeks or until "acknowledged" by Ellanora Baidoo's hard-to-find husband.

Attorney Andrew Spinnell says the couple married in 2009 in a civil ceremony. He says the relationship began to unravel when the defendant reneged on his promise to a traditional Ghanaian wedding ceremony as well.

The ruling says Blood-Dzraku has only been in touch with his wife via phone and Facebook.

Rolling Stone's UVA Rape Story Was A 'Journalistic Failure' That Could've Been Avoided, Columbia Finds

NEW YORK -- Rolling Stone’s discredited story of an alleged gang rape at the University of Virginia amounts to a “journalistic failure that was avoidable,” Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism concluded in an exhaustive report published Sunday night.

“The failure encompassed reporting, editing, editorial supervision and fact-checking,” the authors wrote. “The magazine set aside as unnecessary essential practices of reporting that, if pursued, would likely have led the magazine’s editors to reconsider publishing Jackie’s narrative so prominently, if at all. The published story glossed over the gaps in the magazine’s reporting by using pseudonyms and by failing to state where important information had come from.”

In a Nov. 19 story, Rolling Stone writer Sabrina Rubin Erdely described in horrific detail how a UVA student given the pseudonym Jackie was lured two years earlier by her date into a dark room at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house and brutally raped by seven men. But the Washington Post, and other news outlets, soon discovered inconsistencies in the riveting account that served as the crux of Erdely’s 9,000-word bombshell, “A Rape on Campus.”

Roku Finally Gets Voice Control

Roku has finally done something about the slow and tedious process of using a remote control to steer a cursor, one character at a time, through a grid of letters and numbers to search for TV shows and movies.

The company on Monday announced new versions of two of its streaming devices, which connect to your TV and to the Internet to let you stream video from services like Netflix, Hulu Plus and more than 2,000 other sources, which the company refers to as “channels.”

The most useful new feature is the ability to use your voice to search for a TV show, movie, actor or director. This is similar to the feature that Amazon debuted on its own streaming box, the Fire TV, a year ago -- simply press the microphone button on the remote, speak a name or the title of a movie or TV show into the remote, and it will appear on the screen.

Roku’s search feature works across multiple apps, meaning that if you search for a movie or a TV show, Roku will show you different apps it’s available on, and how much it costs to view it. For example, "The Lego Movie" is currently available for free to people who have HBO Go, or can be purchased from Vudu, Amazon Instant Video, M-Go or CinemaNow.

roku voice search

The new voice search function only comes on the latest version of the Roku 3, the company’s top-of-the-line product, which costs $99.99. As with the older version of the Roku 3, customers can also use the remote as a game controller, and plug headphones into the headphone jack so they can watch a movie or TV show without interrupting others. (It’s a great feature!)

Speaking of the headphone jack: One big change to the lineup is that Roku has pulled the headphone jack from the Roku 2 remote. The new Roku 3 and Roku 2 are actually the same devices on the inside -- it’s just the remote controls that are different.

The Roku 2 costs $69.99.

Roku is also adding a new feature to its menu that lets people “follow” movies. Customers can add titles to the “Roku Feed,” as it’s called, so they can stay up-to-date about when a movie becomes available for rental.

The Roku Streaming Stick, a portable and less-powerful version of the player, and the Roku 1, which is designed for older TVs, remain unchanged, though the Streaming Stick will get a firmware update that the company promises will make it faster.

Roku’s refreshed products come as the company faces increased competition from the biggest tech companies. Roku was an early leader in making devices that stream video, but Google and Amazon have in the past two years released their own devices.

Apple also recently cut the price of Apple TV, its own streaming box, from $99 to $69.

In another blow to Roku, Apple for three months will be the exclusive non-pay TV provider of HBO Now, the network’s standalone streaming service, when it launches next month.

5 Stories You've Never Heard Before About Heath Ledger As The Joker

Legendary makeup artist John Caglione Jr. worked closely with Heath Ledger over the course of shooting "The Dark Knight," helping the actor transform into the role that would posthumously win him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Caglione had his work cut out for him: Tasked with creating a terrifying Joker that would be distinct from all previous iterations, Caglione had to maintain Christopher Nolan's wishes for the character to be "dirty" and "realistic." The result, we all know by now, is both haunting and iconic.

Saturday, April 4, would have been Ledger's birthday. In his honor, we give you behind-the-scenes stories about his memorable onscreen transformation.

1. Multiple "cleaner" versions of The Joker makeup existed before the rougher look was found.

Caglione initially started out trying to make The Joker "very clean" and did some sketches and makeup tests with Ledger, crafting a look that ended up much different than the final face. Increasingly, Ledger and Caglione attempted to degrade the face, but in multiple iterations "it still looked very much like a makeup guy did it." Caglione explained to HuffPost what was going through his head:

As a makeup artist you want it to be perfect, but it had to be imperfect for the character ... And to me it looked like, you know, I would never work again. It was like the worst makeup ever. It was really messed up looking and I just thought, "Oh my god, this could be really terrible for me."
Continuing on, Caglione talked about the early days of when they settled on the rougher look and joked, "There were days when I would look at it and I'd be like, 'Oh, my career is over.'" Of course, the look, which became based around a character who would maybe "sleep in his makeup for a week," ended up working out and Caglione was nominated for an Academy Award.

It should also be noted that the story of Ledger designing the face with department store cosmetics may just be a legend. Caglione said that he "wasn't aware of that" and that Ledger never showed him designs or pictures.

2. The breakthrough for designing the face was when Nolan shared Francis Bacon paintings.

Nolan has expressed a deep interest with Francis Bacon's paintings in the past and in 2013 during a video made by the Tate Museum, Nolan talked in length about how the paintings inspired The Joker's look.

Specifically, one of Bacon's triptychs (seen above) influenced Nolan's vision for The Joker as he was particularly struck by the contrast of the deformed face against the black background.

In the conversation with HuffPost, Caglione also talked about how Nolan used the Bacon paintings to finalize The Joker face. "I remember Chris bringing in a book on Francis Bacon paintings and it was some really great images, really distorted images and that was kind of our bible and we would go off that. That was an inspiration."

3. Ledger would consistently skateboard around set wearing the full costume and makeup.

While shooting was taking place in Chicago, the makeup trailer ended up being at the top of a hill relative to where "The Dark Knight" was filming at Lower Wacker Drive. Because of the hill, Heath Ledger was able to quickly hop on a skateboard and roll down to set. Caglione said "he'd have his costume and makeup on" and "just fool around" with his skateboard.

Caglione explained that when Ledger wasn't filming a scene, "he was just himself" and "even in the makeup he'd ride his skateboard to set and goof around and smoke cigarettes. It would not be in character." Calgione continued, "You could come up to him and hang out with him with the makeup on and the costume and he was Heath."

The skateboarding might have been part of Ledger's relaxed vibe on set as Caglione said, "he was just so cool and not freaked out by the scope of the film." Caglione -- who has worked with many award-winning actors such as Al Pacino and Johnny Depp -- counted Ledger as one of the greats partly for his ability to relax and not let the intense nature of roles overwhelm him.

"Not only was he relaxed or trying to relax. But he was making other people around him relax. That's really true with these great actors. You relax and you're doing your best," said Caglione.

4. At the beginning and end of essentially every workday, Ledger would give a round of bear hugs. He'd still goof around and be congenial while dressed as The Joker.

source: imgur.com

In a previous interview with Movie Geeks United!, Caglione revealed that Ledger would almost always give big bear hugs to all the makeup artists, actors and other miscellaneous crew members who were there at the beginning and end of his days on set.

"He'd come in and give us big hugs in the morning, that's one thing that always happened," Caglione further told HuffPost. People in the crew could interact with Ledger dressed as The Joker, and they wouldn't get anything remotely close to resembling the villain. "He always was in good humor," said Caglione. "Never lost it or anything like that. Never was mean to anyone. [As] The Joker, being in character."

5. Ledger would carry around The Joker diary so that he could switch into the character once on film.

TK TK gifs

Much curiosity surrounds what was in Ledger's "Joker Diary," the sort of scrapbook in which Ledger would compile horrific news stories, drawings and other creepy triggers.

Caglione talked how Ledger would use the diary on set, saying that the actor carried it with him "a lot" and it "just helped him put him in a certain place in his head."

Apparently at the end of shooting, Ledger wrote the words, "BYE BYE," over the last page of the diary.

"I'm glad I had a chance to know him."

"He made it look easy," said Caglione, who only had great things to say about his interactions with the late actor.

Near the end of the interview, Caglione talked about his admiration of Ledger's ability to stay so cool and calm and friendly throughout filming despite playing the memorably villainous role. Caglione admitted that he was "more of a nervous wreck" than Ledger ever was. "He always was in good humor."

Giuliana Rancic Says Jerry O'Connell Cheated On Her With Ginger Spice

In her new book "Going Off Script," E! News anchor and "Fashion Police" co-host Giuliana Rancic is spilling secrets some of her exes might have thought were ancient history.

The 40-year-old, who dated Jerry O'Connell from 2003 to 2004, claims the actor cheated on her with Geri Halliwell aka Ginger Spice, and the woman who would go to be his future wife, Rebecca Romijn.

"I was being two-timed for one of the lesser Spices?" Rancic writes in her book (via Page Six), claiming that when she confronted the "Stand by Me" actor, he admitted the indiscretion with as "much emotion as the customer-service representative who tells you your bags missed the flight.”

The pair got back together in 2004 and apparently even discussed marriage, until Rancic (who was still going by her maiden name of Giuliana DePandi at the time) says O'Connell's wandering eye flared up again at the Maxim’s 100 Hottest Women party.

“Little did I know he was in the VIP area, talking up Rebecca [Romijn]. As a prelude to feeling up Rebecca," Rancic writes, adding that a week later the actor left for Las Vegas and stopped returning her calls.

Rancic says that when she tried to confront the actor at his home, he wouldn't let her in. "Nope. Sorry, homegirl. Things change, but you take care, OK?” he said, ending their relationship. O'Connell would go on to marry Romijn in July 2007 and they welcomed twin daughters in December 2008, while Giuliana married Bill Rancic in September 2007. They have a 2-year-old son, Duke.

Request for comment made by HuffPost Entertainment to O'Connell's reps was not immediately returned.

For more secrets revealed by Rancic, you can pick up her book, "Going Off Script: How I Survived a Crazy Childhood, Cancer, and Clooney's 32 On-Screen Rejections," which hits stores on April 7.

Reddit Hopes Ending Salary Negotiations Will Help Women

Just weeks after losing a courtroom battle that highlighted tech's glaring gender problems, Pao is trying to solve some of them closer to home: at Reddit, where she is interim CEO.

In an effort to promote gender diversity, Reddit is no longer negotiating salaries with potential hires, Pao told The Wall Street Journal. It was her first interview since losing a gender-discrimination lawsuit against the venture-capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers last month.

Domino's CEO: 'We've Gotta Pay More' To Hire Good Workers

Add Domino's to the list of companies coming under pressure to raise pay.

"We've gotta pay more to get people right now," Domino's CEO Patrick Doyle said in an appearance on CNBC on Monday morning. "The great news is the economy is moving, it is getting better, it's getting harder to hire people."

Doyle did not announce a broad raise for his company's lowest-paid workers, but other big employers have recently, including McDonald's and Walmart.

A Brother And Sister Relationship?

Asin and Abhishek Bachchan have acted together in two films. In one they played as brother and sister to each other whereas they were paired with other actors in the other film.

Nevertheless, Abhishek seems to have taken his role of brother to Asin on screen, literally and is virtually behaving like one. He is said to be helping out Asin with anything and everything that she needs in terms of her career as well as personal life.

Recently, a website was created badmouthing Asin and it was Abhishek who first noticed this and informed Asin.

She promptly approached the cops and filed a complaint against the site. The incident shows the extent to which Abhishek is concerned about Asin.

Surely, it has to be a brother-sister relationship! Married to the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai, why would one want to even look at another woman?

U.S. Supreme Court Declines To Review North Carolina Voting Law

WASHINGTON, April 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to review the legality of new Republican-backed voting restrictions in North Carolina that were part of a law opponents argued was aimed at making it harder for voters who tend to favor Democrats to cast ballots.

The court rejected the state's appeal of an October decision by the Richmond, Virginia-based 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that found that parts of the 2013 law should be provisionally blocked while litigation continues.

The law put in place a requirement that voters show certain forms of photo identification in order to cast a ballot as well as other provisions. At issue in the current case are the sections of the law that barred same-day voter registration and provisional voting for voters casting ballots outside their normal precincts.

The Supreme Court's action has little immediate impact as a full trial on the legality of the law is scheduled for this summer, with a final ruling likely ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

The appeals court had said same-day registration and provisional voting for those casting ballots outside their normal precincts, both barred by the law, should be allowed.

In October, the Supreme Court allowed the restrictions to go into effect until the justices had time to consider the state's appeal in full, with two of the nine justices dissenting.

The law was passed by the state's Republican-led legislature in 2013.

Republicans argue that voter ID and other requirements are needed to prevent voter fraud. Democrats say the law and similar measures passed by other Republican-governed states are intended to make it harder for minorities, young people and other groups that tend to vote for Democrats to vote.

Chris Christie To Embark On First Major 2016 Tour In New Hampshire

Though the focus of the Republican presidential race has shifted to other contenders, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) sees a path that could lead him back to the forefront of the 2016 discussion -- one that ambles through the quaint and storied old towns of New Hampshire.

Christie is set to begin his longest campaign-style sojourn this year when he sets out April 14 on a four-day swing through the first primary state in the nation, The Huffington Post has learned.

The extended New Hampshire visit will feature private gatherings and public retail stops around the state, punctuated by a pair of town hall meetings that the New Jersey governor’s political action committee is billing as the kickoff to a “Tell it like it is” town hall tour.

Christie’s schedule is still to be finalized, but the first town hall meeting will be held at the Lions Club in Londonderry on Wednesday, April 15.

Additional events will take place in Manchester, the Seacoast Region town of Newmarket and elsewhere. Christie will hold a second town hall meeting on April 17.

Christie’s brain trust views his rare ability to connect with voters viscerally in face-to-face settings as his trump card for regaining the momentum he has lost on the national stage over the last year amid continued fallout from the "Bridgegate" scandal and New Jersey’s muddled state of affairs.

Though he is no longer spoken of as a top-tier candidate in most circles, Christie has by all accounts not been dissuaded from a trajectory that would have him officially jump into the race later this spring.

And despite the challenges in front of him, no early-voting state offers Christie a better opportunity to begin turning his political fortunes around than New Hampshire does.

With its independent-minded GOP primary electorate, affinity for bluntness in its politicians and history of rewarding candidates who had been written off for dead by the national media, New Hampshire is -- in theory, at least -- tailor-made for providing someone like Christie a shot at success.

And with a full 42 percent of Republicans nationally saying they would not even consider voting for Christie, according to a recent CBS News poll, New Hampshire may offer his last best chance of turning his fortunes around.

Christie’s four-day trip will culminate with his appearance in Nashua on Friday, April 17, at a summit sponsored by the New Hampshire GOP that is slated to feature no fewer than 18 prospective Republican White House hopefuls.

12 Foods To Eat When You're Totally Stressed Out

When work deadlines begin piling up and your social calendar is booked, the last thing you want to hear is to steer clear of the vending machine. Who has time for healthy eating? But when it comes to combating stress levels, what you eat may actually help relieve your tension. Indeed, some foods may help stabilize blood sugar or, better yet, your emotional response. Here, 12 foods to reach for when you've just about had enough.
Green leafy vegetables.
leafy vegetables
It's tempting to reach for a cheeseburger when stressed, but go green at lunch instead. "Green leafy vegetables like spinach contain folate, which produces dopamine, a pleasure-inducing brain chemical, helping you keep calm," says Heather Mangieri, RDN, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. A 2012 study in the Journal of Affective Disorders of 2,800 middle-aged and elderly people and found those who consumed the most folate had a lower risk of depression symptoms than those who took in the least. And, a 2013 study from the University of Otago found that college students tended to feel calmer, happier and more energetic on days they ate more fruits and veggies. It can be hard to tell which came first -- upbeat thoughts or healthy eating -- but the researchers found that healthy eating seemed to predict a positive mood the next day.
Turkey breast.
You've probably heard that the tryptophan in turkey is to blame for that food coma on Thanksgiving. The amino acid, found in protein-containing foods, helps produce serotonin, "the chemical that regulates hunger and feelings of happiness and well-being," Mangieri says. On its own, tryptophan may have a calming effect. In a 2006 study published in the Journal of Psychiatry Neuroscience, men and women who were argumentative (based on personality tests) took either tryptophan supplements or a placebo for 15 days. Those who took tryptophan were perceived as more agreeable by their study partners at the end of the two weeks compared with when they didn't take it. (The study was funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.) Other foods high in tryptophan include nuts, seeds, tofu, fish, lentils, oats, beans and eggs.
If you're already a carb lover, it's likely that nothing can come between you and a doughnut when stress hits. First rule of thumb: Don't completely deny the craving. According to MIT research, carbohydrates can help the brain make serotonin, the same substance regulated by antidepressants. But instead of reaching for that sugary bear claw, go for complex carbs. "Stress can cause your blood sugar to rise, Mangieri says, "so a complex carb like oatmeal won't contribute to your already potential spike in blood glucose."
As bizarre as it may sound, the bacteria in your gut might be contributing to stress. Research has shown that the brain signals to the gut, which is why stress can inflame gastrointestinal symptoms; communication may flow the other way too, from gut to brain. A 2013 UCLA study among 36 healthy women revealed that consuming probiotics in yogurt reduced brain activity in areas that handle emotion, including stress compared to people who consumed yogurt without probiotics or no yogurt at all. This study was small so more research is needed to confirm the results—but considering yogurt is full of calcium and protein in addition to probiotics, you really can't go wrong by adding more of it to your diet.
When you're stressed, it can ratchet up anxiety hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. "The omega-3 fatty acids in salmon have anti-inflammatory properties that may help counteract the negative effects of stress hormones," says Lisa Cimperman, RD, of the University Hospitals Case Medical Center and a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In a study funded by the National Institutes of Health, Oregon State University medical students who took omega-3 supplements had a 20% reduction in anxiety compared to the group given placebo pills. One 3-ounce serving of cooked wild salmon can have more than 2,000 milligrams of omega-3s, double the daily intake recommended by the American Heart Association for people with heart disease.
"When you're stressed, there's a battle being fought inside you," Mangieri says. "The antioxidants and phytonutrients found in berries fight in your defense, helping improve your body's response to stress and fight stress-related free radicals." Research has also shown that blueberry eaters experience a boost in natural killer cells, "a type of white blood cell that plays a vital role in immunity, critical for countering stress," says Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD, Health's contributing nutrition editor.
When you have an ongoing loop of negative thoughts playing in your mind, doing something repetitive with your hands may help silence your inner monologue. Think knitting or kneading bread—or even shelling nuts like pistachios or peanuts. The rhythmic moves will help you relax. Plus, the added step of cracking open a shell slows down your eating, making pistachios a diet-friendly snack. What's more, pistachios have heart-health benefits. "Eating pistachios may reduce acute stress by lowering blood pressure and heart rate," Mangieri says. "The nuts contain key phytonutrients that may provide antioxidant support for cardiovascular health."
Dark chocolate.
Calling all chocoholics: a regular healthy indulgence (just a bite, not a whole bar!) of dark chocolate might have the power to regulate your stress levels. "Research has shown that it can reduce your stress hormones, including cortisol," Sass says. "Also, the antioxidants in cocoa trigger the walls of your blood vessels to relax, lowering blood pressure and improving circulation. And finally, dark chocolate contains unique natural substances that create a sense of euphoria similar to the feeling of being in love!" Go for varieties that contain at least 70% cocoa.
Fortified milk is an excellent source of vitamin D, a nutrient that might boost happiness. A 50-year-long study by London's UCL Institute of Child Health found an association between reduced levels of vitamin D and an increased risk of panic and depression among 5,966 men and women. People who had sufficient vitamin D levels had a reduced risk of panic disorders compared to subjects with the lowest levels of vitamin D. Other foods high in vitamin D include salmon, egg yolks and fortified cereal.
pumpkin seeds
Flaxseed, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds are all great sources of magnesium (as are leafy greens, yogurt, nuts and fish). Loading up on the mineral may help regulate emotions. "Magnesium has been shown to help alleviate depression, fatigue and irritability," Sass says. "Bonus: When you're feeling especially irritable during that time of the month, the mineral also helps to fight PMS symptoms, including cramps and water retention."
You can't just reach for slice after slice of avocado toast during crunch time if you don't want to gain weight, but this superfruit might help shut down stress-eating by filling your belly and making you feel more satisfied. In a 2014 study by Loma Linda University (which, full disclosure, was sponsored by the Hass Avocado Board), researchers had participants add half an avocado to their lunches, which reduced their desire to eat more by 40% for the three hours following the midday meal. That full feeling will make you less inclined to reach for unhealthy snacks when stress kicks in.
One ounce of the buttery nut packs 11% of the daily recommended value of zinc, an essential mineral that may help reduce anxiety. When researchers gave zinc supplements to people who were diagnosed with both anxiety symptoms (irritability, lack of ability to concentrate) and deficient zinc levels over a course of eight weeks, the patients saw a 31% decrease in anxiety, according to Nutrition and Metabolic Insights. This is likely because zinc affects the levels of a nerve chemical that influences mood. If you're already getting enough zinc, then it may not help your mood to chow down on cashews (or other zinc-rich foods like oysters, beef, chicken and yogurt). But, cashews are also rich in omega-3s and protein, so they're a smart snack no matter what.

This Is What Sugar Does To Your Brain

We know that too much sugar is bad for our waistlines and our heart health, but now there's mounting evidence that high levels of sugar consumption can also have a negative effect on brain health -- from cognitive function to psychological wellbeing.

While sugar is nothing to be too concerned about in small quantities, most of us are simply eating too much of it. The sweet stuff -- which also goes by names like glucose, fructose, honey and corn syrup -- is found in 74 percent of packaged foods in our supermarkets. And while the Word Health Organization recommends that only 5 percent of daily caloric intake come from sugar, the typical American diet is comprised of 13 percent calories from sugar.

“Many Americans eat about five times the amount of sugar they should consume,” Natasa Janicic-Kahric, an associate professor of medicine at Georgetown University Hospital, told The Washington Post.

Netanyahu Goes On Sunday Talk Shows To Blast Iran Nuclear Deal

Days after coming out against the recently announced framework agreement that aims to reduce Iran's nuclear capabilities, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took to the Sunday talk shows to once again voice his opposition.

"I think this is a bad deal," Netanyahu told Martha Raddatz on ABC's "This Week." "It leaves Iran with a vast nuclear infrastructure."

The Israeli prime minister went on to reiterate a claim he made on Friday, saying that the easing of sanctions would boost Iran's economy and free the nation to support terrorism.

Military Action Against Iran Still Possible, Says Israeli Official

JERUSALEM (AP) — A senior Israeli government minister on Monday warned that taking military action against Iran's nuclear program is still an option — despite last week's framework deal between world powers and the Islamic Republic.

The comments by Yuval Steinitz, Israel's minister for strategic affairs, reflected the alarm in Israel over last week's deal, which offers Iran relief from economic sanctions in exchange for scaling back its suspect nuclear program. Israeli leaders believe the framework leaves too much of Iran's nuclear infrastructure intact and could still allow it to develop the means to produce a nuclear weapon.

Steinitz, a confidant of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's, said the government would spend the coming months lobbying the world powers negotiating with Iran to strengthen the language in the deal as they hammer out a final agreement. While stressing that Israel prefers a diplomatic solution, he said the "military option" still exists.

"It was on the table. It's still on the table. It's going to remain on the table," Steinitz told reporters. "Israel should be able to defend itself, by itself, against any threat. And it's our right and duty to decide how to defend ourselves, especially if our national security and even very existence is under threat."

Israel considers a nuclear-armed Iran to be a threat to its survival, pointing to years of Iranian calls for Israel's destruction, its support for anti-Israeli militant groups and its development of long-range ballistic missiles that could be armed with nuclear warheads. Israel — which is widely believed to be a nuclear power — says a nuclear-armed Iran would set off an arms race in the world's most volatile region.

The framework agreement was announced last Thursday in Switzerland after years of negotiations between Iran and world powers.

The deal aims to cut significantly into Iran's bomb-making technology while giving Tehran relief from international sanctions. The commitments, if implemented, would substantially pare down Iranian nuclear assets for a decade and restrict others for an additional five years. Iran would also be subject to intrusive international inspections.

Netanyahu believes the deal leaves intact too much of Iran's suspect nuclear program, including research facilities and advanced centrifuges capable of enriching uranium, a key ingredient in a bomb. He also says the deal fails to address Iran's support for militant groups across the Middle East.

Since the deal was announced, Washington has tried to calm Israeli nerves and on Monday, White House official Ben Rhoads gave a pair of televised interviews promising continued U.S. support for Israeli security.

Rhodes, the deputy national security adviser, told Channel 2 TV that sanctions will be "snapped back into place if the Iranians don't comply."

"There are significant limitations on the nuclear program and with inspections if they break the deal we will know very quickly and then we will be able to make decisions about what to do," he said.

When asked if a military strike was still an option during the implementation stage of the agreement, Rhodes said: "We believe its best frankly if we don't have to exercise that option and Iran complies with this type of good comprehensive deal, but certainly if there was a violation we would have all options to consider in response to a violation."

Steinitz said Monday that Israel has drawn up a list of 10 issues Israel wants addressed in the final agreement.

The list includes a halt to "research and development" with advanced centrifuges, a reduction in the number of earlier-generation centrifuges that will be allowed to operate, and the complete closure of the underground Fordo nuclear research site.

Under the outlines in Switzerland, Iran has agreed to halt enrichment activities there but the site will be allowed to continue research, and some centrifuges will remain.

Israel also wants Iran "to come clean" about its past efforts on developing nuclear weapons, stronger assurances on how its stockpile of enriched uranium will be removed, and wants clarity on when sanctions on Iran will be lifted and how quickly they could be re-imposed.

Steinitz said Israel will lobby the world powers — the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany — to amend the final version of the deal ahead of a June 30 deadline. He said Israel still hopes the final deal can be improved.

"It might become a much better deal and a more comprehensive and trusted deal than it is today. This is a bad deal," Steinitz said.

Netanyahu has warned of the dangers of a nuclear-armed Iran for years, but after the Switzerland announcement, it remains unclear how much of an impact he could have on the final negotiations.

Reminding the world of the military option is one way to gain some leverage — many in Israel believe that Israeli threats to strike Iran's nuclear installations several years ago helped trigger international sanctions and the dialogue that led to last Thursday's framework deal.

Questions also remain on Israel's military option. A long-range aerial mission would be dangerous and could trigger retaliation from Iran or its various proxies across the region. It also remains unclear how much damage it could inflict on a program that is spread out and in some cases, hidden underground.

President Barack Obama has said any military attack would only set back Iran by a few years.

Ronen Bergman, an Israeli military-affairs commentator, said Israel would have to produce clear intelligence showing that Iran has resumed a military nuclear program before striking.

"If Israel decides to attack — that evidence will be what will probably save it from international isolation," Bergman wrote in the Yediot Ahronot daily.

Bollywood Heroine dreams of Mahesh Babu!

Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut made her Telugu debut with Prabhas’ Bujjigadu several years ago. After that she became busy in Bollywood and recently even got the National Award for her acting in Queen movie. She is having non stop offers there and has not time to think of a Telugu comeback. However she clarifies that she will consider a comeback in Telugu if it is a Mahesh Babu film.

“Mahesh Babu is very beautiful. He is an excellent actor too. He is the most handsome hero in Telugu. I will definitely come back to Telugu if I get offer beside him”, Kangana said in a magazine interview.

Having said that the ball is now in the court of Mahesh Babu and his makers! Bringing in Bollywood actresses will definitely add hype to the films. But the tantrums they throw and the hefty paychecks they demand is of big problem!

State Of Syrian Refugee Camp Under ISIS Attack Is 'Beyond Inhumane,' UN Official Says

BEIRUT (AP) -- Palestinian fighters clashed with Islamic State militants Monday in a heavily contested Palestinian refugee camp in the Syrian capital as a United Nations official described the situation in the embattled camp as "beyond inhumane."

The fighting in the Yarmouk camp began on Wednesday when the Islamic State group muscled into the camp, marking the extremists' deepest foray yet into Damascus. The assault touched off ferocious fighting that has added yet another layer of misery for the some 18,000 residents who have already endured desperate conditions marked by a lack of basic food, medicine and water.

Hatem al-Dimashqi, an activist based in an area just south of Damascus, said the Yarmouk camp was under attack Monday. Both al-Dimashqi and the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said Syrian government aircraft has been shelling the camp and dropping barrel bombs since Sunday.

The fighting inside the camp has largely pitted the Islamic State group against Aknaf Beit al-Maqdis, a Palestinian faction opposed to Syrian President Bashar Assad. Observatory director Rami Abdurrahman estimated that the Islamic State group now controls as much as 90 percent of Yarmouk, slowly squeezing Aknaf Beit al-Maqdis out.

Palestinian officials and Syrian activists say the Islamic State militants fighting in Yarmouk were working with rivals from the al-Qaida affiliate in Syria, the Nusra Front. The two groups have fought bloody battles against each other in other parts of Syria, but appear to be cooperating in the attack on Yarmouk.

Nusra said in a statement it is taking a neutral stance in the camp.

Chris Gunness, a spokesman for the U.N. agency that supports Palestinian refugees known as UNRWA, told The Associated Press in Barcelona late Sunday that the agency has not been able to send any food or convoys into the camp since the fighting started.

"That means that there is no food, there is no water and there is very little medicine," he said. "The situation in the camp is beyond inhumane. People are holed up in their houses, there is fighting going on in the streets. There are reports of ... bombardments. This has to stop and civilians must be evacuated."

He said 93 people have been evacuated from the camp so far.

The United Nations says around 18,000 civilians, including a large number of children, are trapped in Yarmouk. The camp has been under government siege for nearly two years, leading to starvation and illnesses. The camp also has witnessed several rounds of ferocious and deadly fighting between government forces and anti-Assad militants.

"Things were bad and things got worse when the fighting engulfed the camp," Gunness said.

UVA Fraternity To Pursue Legal Action Against Rolling Stone After Retracted Rape Story

NEW YORK -- The University of Virginia fraternity at the center of Rolling Stone's discredited report on an alleged 2012 gang rape on campus announced plans Monday "to pursue all available legal action against the magazine."

The decision comes a day after Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism issued a devastating report highlighting Rolling Stone's "journalistic failure" in publishing its November bombshell, "A Rape on Campus." The fraternity was temporarily suspended following the allegations of a gang rape involving its members, but reinstated this year as no evidence surfaced that any such crime took place.

Stephen Scipione, president of the Virginia Alpha chapter of Phi Kappa Psi, said in a statement Monday that the Columbia report "demonstrates the reckless nature in which Rolling Stone researched and failed to verify facts in its article that erroneously accused Phi Kappa Psi of crimes its members did not commit.”

He added that “this type of reporting serves as a sad example of a serious decline of journalistic standards.”

Rolling Stone officially retracted the story Sunday night, but Jann Wenner, the magazine's founder and publisher, issued no disciplinary action against writer Sabrina Rubin Erdely and top editors Will Dana and Sean Woods. Wenner's decision shocked many in the journalism community given the magnitude of the editorial collapse, the worst in the magazine's 48-year history.

The Columbia report detailed how Erdely failed to do basic reporting to verify the claims of the story's main source, referred to as "Jackie." Dana and Woods also didn't fulfill their duties in overseeing the story, allowing it to be published without even knowing if the alleged ringleader of the attack -- given the pseudonym "Drew" -- even existed. There is no evidence he does.

Charlottesville police, after interviewing 70 people, concluded last month that there is no evidence to support Jackie's claims.

The fraternity, in a release, noted how Rolling Stone didn't punish those involved in the editorial process and Erdely never apologized directly to members of Phi Kappa Psi in her Sunday night statement.

“Clearly our fraternity and its members have been defamed, but more importantly we fear this entire episode may prompt some victims to remain in the shadows, fearful to confront their attackers,” Scipione said. “If Rolling Stone wants to play a real role in addressing this problem, it’s time to get serious.”

A Rolling Stone spokeswoman had no immediate reply to the fraternity's announcement.
