Serene musical nights

These days I am reading a book on Bach by John Eliot Gardiner. It is really a very lengthy one and would take up enormous amount of time. And then it certainly requires intermittent discussions with my teacher, for me to understand even a fraction of it.

I am now learning a sweet and simple piece called -Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring. By J. S. Bach. It is all full of triplets and in ¾ rhythm. It is even sweeter to hear it as organ and choral music. The transcribed version for the piano by Myra Hess is exquisite. Her work is still very hard for me to read. So I am learning a fairly simple arrangement by Lee Evans.

I just got to the place in the book on Bach, where the chapter is titled as -The class of '85. The author says, 'three musicians of immense future distinction turned 18 in 1703,'  them being - Domenico Scarlatti, Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel.

Those who watched the recent Royal Wedding this May, the bride Meghan has walked into the church to the music of Handel - Eternal Source of Light divine, another classic like Bach's.

Tonight a serene night, just like those musical pieces, my agenda is to play my piano late into night, and then read contently Bach.

In preparation, I feel like humming a bit. Lucky me, there is always certain somebody's syllabic arrangements on the screen, that I can quickly grab and croon.
