The real devotion lies in fear of God and love of God. Both these mental states are related to each other. Whereas fear of God makes man always conscious about his deeds and cultivates love of God. (Guru Nanak)

Chapter I: The Yoga of Arjuna's Despondancy

I.11. (Duryodhana to Drona describing the Kuru army) "Therefore do ye all (Kuru warriors), stationed in your respective positions, in the several divisions of the army, protect Bhishma (symbolizing the Ego) alone."

I.12. His (Duryodhana's) glorious grand-sire (Bhishma), the oldest of the Kauravas, in order to cheer Duryodhana, now roared like a lion, and blew his conch shell.

Education is meant for not just literacy or numeracy or prosperity; it is meant essentially for spirituality

Education is highly sought nowadays, with people paying millions to get prestigious degrees. But what is education meant for? Some common answers are: literacy, numeracy and prosperity.

Literacy enables us to access the knowledge provided by past and present thinkers.

Numeracy connotes the ability to deal with numbers, to calculate using various mathematical methods, simple and sophisticated. In today's complex economy, numeracy is an important life-skill that education is meant to provide.

Prosperity is the motive that drives most people to education. They seek those degrees that promise the highest-paying jobs: for example, vocational or technical degrees.

Yet is education meant just for literacy, numeracy and prosperity? All these are things to live with, not things to live for. We need a purpose that makes life meaningful. Without such a purpose, life stays unfulfilling – and becomes unbearable when adversities make us question the point of living.

To perceive the point of living, we can ask ourselves: What do we seek the most in life?

It is love, lasting love. We all long to love forever and to be loved forever. Learning how to fulfill this longing is life's most important education.

This education is provided by the Bhagavad-gita, which declares such spiritual knowledge to be the essence of all knowledge (13.11). The Gita explains that our longing for love can be fulfilled only at the spiritual level, where we eternally belong and for which we eternally long. At our core, we are eternal spiritual beings. We are parts of the whole, the all-attractive supreme, Krishna, and are meant for a life of unending love with him.

When our education thus illumines our spirituality, we can learn to use everything, including literacy, numeracy and prosperity, to fulfill the purpose of education and the purpose of life itself.

या निशा सर्वभूतानां तस्यां जागर्ति संयमी।

यस्यां जाग्रति भूतानि सा निशा पश्यतो मुनेः।।2.69।।

या which निशा night सर्वभूतानाम् of all beings तस्याम् in that जागर्ति wakes संयमी the self-controlled यस्याम् in which जाग्रति wake भूतानि all beings सा that निशा night पश्यतः (of the) seeing मुनेः of the Muni.

యా నిశా సర్వభూతానాం తస్యాం జాగర్తి సంయమీ.

యస్యాం జాగ్రతి భూతాని సా నిశా పశ్యతో మునేః৷৷2.69৷৷

యా which నిశా night సర్వభూతానామ్ of all beings తస్యామ్ in that జాగర్తి wakes సంయమీ the self-controlled యస్యామ్ in which జాగ్రతి wake భూతాని all beings సా that నిశా night పశ్యతః (of the) seeing మునేః of the Muni.

Commentary: That which is real for the worldly-minded people is illusion for the sage, and vice versa. The sage lives in the Self. This is day for him. He is unconscious of the worldly phenomena. They are night for him? as it were. The ordinary man is unconscious of his real nature. Life in the spirit is night for him. He is experiencing the objects of sensual enjoyment. This is day for him. The Self is a non-entity for him! For a sage this world is a non-entity.The wordly-minded people are in utter darkness as they have no knowledge of the Self. What is darkness for them is all light for the sage. The Self? Atman or Brahman is night for the worldly-minded persons. But the sage is fully awake. He is directly cognising the supreme Reality? the Light of lights. He is full of illumination and Atma-Jnana or knowledge of the Self.

समुद्रमापः प्रविशन्ति यद्वत्।

तद्वत्कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे

स शान्तिमाप्नोति न कामकामी।।2.70।।

आपूर्यमाणम् filled from all sides अचलप्रतिष्ठम् based in stillness समुद्रम् ocean आपः water प्रविशन्ति enter यद्वत् as तद्वत् so कामाः desires यम् whom प्रविशन्ति enter सर्वे all सः he शान्तिम् peace आप्नोति attains न not कामकामी desirer of desires.

సముద్రమాపః ప్రవిశన్తి యద్వత్.

తద్వత్కామా యం ప్రవిశన్తి సర్వే

స శాన్తిమాప్నోతి న కామకామీ৷৷2.70৷৷

ఆపూర్యమాణమ్ filled from all sides అచలప్రతిష్ఠమ్ based in stillness సముద్రమ్ ocean ఆపః water ప్రవిశన్తి enter యద్వత్ as తద్వత్ so కామాః desires యమ్ whom ప్రవిశన్తి enter సర్వే all సః he శాన్తిమ్ peace ఆప్నోతి attains న not కామకామీ desirer of desires.

Commentary : Just as the ocean filled with waters from all sides remains unmoved, so also the sage who is resting in his own Svarupa or the Self is not a bit affected though desires of all sorts enter from all sides. The sage attains peace or liberation but not he who longs for objects of sensual enjoyment and entertains various desires.

Even though a human being is subjected to the four natural instincts like an animal, he has a cheque(Vivekam)/ analyzing capability within him which needs to be encashed into Parama Artham(spirit) . Just like the spirit which evaporates on its own, Nityaanitya Vastu Vivekam/Parama Artham empowers the process of transformation of Buddi in to Tejassu. Only Sat Guru Krupa(grace) which comes in the form of the spiritual knowledge(Jhnanam/Agini) triggers this process. Thus the power of spiritual knowledge makes a person spiritually enlightened/spirituous.
Eswara is in all human beings as Atma/Sakshe. Eswara(Atma) is Poornam. Eswari(Atma Jhnanam) is Poornam. Buddi of a spiritually enlightened person transforms Manasu(mind) in to Samtushthi/ Samtrupti (Poornam) .
Samtrupti as Ruchi Rahitam is Nirvikaaram.Kshuda as Ruchi Rahitam is Nirvikaaram. Thus Kshuda is same as Samtrupti and in turn it is same as Poornam.
Thus a spiritually enlightened person who has encashed the cheque which is within him into spirit (that is transformation of Buddi in to Tajassu) due to the grace of a Sat Guru draws perfect happiness even though he is subjected to hunger. This is because Samtushthi as well as Kshuda is Eswari Rupam and Eswari is not different from Eswara and Eswara is within us as Chidaananda Rupam.

[racchabanda] రచ్చబండ కవితలు

A timer I set, to put me on alert

When all ten eggs on stovetop are boiled;

I am composing, I got lost in the sonnet

Suddenly the alarm in the kitchen blared

A fiendish, hellish, racket.

I tapped off the alarm in an instant

Went on rhyming until Pop! I heard Gun Shot

God! Am I shot! No. I am intact.

Damn! The Eggs exploded and hit the Ceiling

The water and pot -all burnt down to nothing.

Forget the Sonnet, forget the Sestet

I shut the stove, I reset the command on tablet:

"Sweetie! Always turn the fucking fire off first

And shut the freaking alarm next."
