[racchabanda] రచ్చబండ కవితలు

Its 'real news' dear friends in Rb.  It may rhyme and what not, but this one is not 'fiction-poetry.' It is:

Floridian* wild life

Now there is a sign up at the guard house,

Beware! There is a bear!

My cleaning help, called me, before turning back with fear

"I don't want to enter the grounds;

I am very nervous about them bears, sorry! Let us reschedule, dear."

I call up the gate, and he gently informs,

Yes! A bear and two cubs are still playing around

They are being spotted now and then on the ground

They are knocking the garbage cans down, climbing trees

They are playing in the garden showers.

They seem to be having a jolly good time

They don't seem to have any intention of returning to the woods.

Now every rumbling of a sports car in the campus

Every thunder up in the skies

I am hearing as the growling of a bear

It is making me cautious and nervous

I would love to see - the mama and the little guys -

And offer some honey, but that could be the end of yahoo's-lylayer.

*A friendly text from a fellow Floridian said, - 'Do not feed the local pets, support the local sheriff.'

The awe-inspiring mystery of God is to be venerated, not penetrated When we come to know of Krishna's form, pastimes, philosophy, associates, paraphernalia, we may think that we know him.

But do we, really?
Krishna is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent – he is the supreme mystery, unknowable to even the greatest sages.
Arjuna was Krishna's personal associate and dear friend; he knew Krishna much better than we do. But even he realized that he didn't know Krishna when he beheld Krishna's universal form. That form was so unending and unfathomable that Arjuna was initially astounded, then alarmed. Why alarmed? Because Krishna had revealed his all-devouring time manifestation which Arjuna couldn't recognize.
On understanding Krishna's awe-inspiring glories, Arjuna offered reverential prayers (11.36-46). Therein, he glorified Krishna: Your might is limitless; you pervade everything; you are everything (11.40).
Normally, when we go to a temple, we offer obeisances to the Deity. But if a temple has deities everywhere, where will we offer obeisances? Such was Arjuna's predicament on seeing the universal form everywhere. So, he offered obeisances from the front, from the back, from all directions (11..40) – indeed, he offered obeisances hundreds of times (11.39).
When we approach Krishna, we need a similar mood of veneration. Why? Because mysterious are his ways. How he orchestrates things to bring good out of bad is a profound mystery. And this mystery is not arcane theology; it has immense, immediate bearing on our life. If we try to penetrate Krishna's mysterious ways, we will be baffled and disheartened. Instead, we need to just surrender to him, "Krishna, I am your servant. Please guide me how I can serve you." – as did Arjuna (18.73).
By such veneration, we can connect steadily with him. And that connection will gradually give us calmness and clarity to navigate our way through life's dark phases and ultimately attain Krishna's eternal abode.
Think it over:
If we think that we know Krishna, how are we mistaken? Why did Arjuna offer obeisances in all directions? How can venerating Krishna's mysterious ways help us in our life?

What is Health?

by Sri Swami Sivananda

What is health? It is that state of equilibrium of the three humours of the body, viz., Vata, Pitta and Kapha (wind, bile and phlegm), wherein the mind and all the organs of the body work in harmony and concord and man enjoys peace and happiness and performs his duties of life with comfort and ease..

Health is that condition in which man has good digestion, good appetite, a normal breathing and normal pulse, good quantity and quality of blood, strong nerves and a calm mind, a sound mind in a sound body, a free movement of the bowels, normal state of urine, rosy cheeks, shining face and sparkling eyes.

Health is that state in which a man jumps, sings, smiles, laughs, whistles and moves about hither and thither with joy and ecstasy. It is that condition in which he can think properly, speak properly and act with alacrity, nimbleness and vigilance.

Health is that state in which a man sleeps well, digests his food well, is quite at ease, is free from any kind of disease or uneasiness. When you are in a state of perfect health, all the organs, viz., heart, lungs, brain, kidneys, liver, intestines, work in perfect harmony and concord and discharge their functions satisfactorily. The pulse-rate and the rate of respiration are in perfect order. The bodily temperature is normal. This state is coveted by all. A life with good health is a great blessing indeed.

Health is a Great Treasure

Good health is a valuable asset to man. It is a great treasure. It bestows happiness and prosperity. Health is essential to happiness. Health is not merely absence of disease. It includes the full development of physical, mental and spiritual powers of a man. Health is a condition of physical and mental well-being: a normal state of body and mind in which all parts and organs perform their functions regularly, easily and satisfactorily and are free from disease, pain and weakness. A person who is endowed with good health, digests his food well, sleeps soundly and does his daily work satisfactorily. He is ever joyful and energetic. You should have a clear idea of what disease is and how it is caused. Only then will you be able to prevent a disease. Diseases can be averted if you understand the biological laws which govern life, the rules of health and hygiene and the importance of cleanliness. A general knowledge of the laws of health would help considerably in preventing sickness and death and improving the health of the people.

MASTER'S LOVE OF SERVICE: Talking to a visitor in the Ashram one day, the Master showed him his several pens, note-books and watches.

"People think that a Sannyasin should not have this or use that," he said, tapping a call-bell playfully. "But I have no such notion. Service is the thing. Work, work and work for the welfare of humanity. Keep the instruments—the body and mind—in a fit and healthy condition for the work. I am a different kind of Sannyasin. I like to serve. People imagine that a Sannyasin should always be grave and sit like this, (here the Master actually sat erect and closed his eyes), and thus give the impression to them that he is a liberated sage. But I am of a different type. Work should be your meditation. That is my method".

"Realisation of the Absolute is not a talk, is not a play.. It is the most difficult and the hardest of all tasks. It demands the price of one's very self. Will you really and willingly pay it? It demands your ego. It demands your very being as the cost for Self-realisation. If that is everyone's goal, if that is everyone's ideal, should not the more experienced ones impart that secret to the lesser ones? Should not every child in the cradle be initiated into the mysteries of existence?" – Swami Sivananda

Man is held by everything he holds. Release your grip on things if you would not be in their grip. The slightest thing is priceless, so set not on anything a price lest you be setting prices on your lives. No dearer is man's life than that which he holds dear. (Mikhail Naimy)

As death is inevitable and the human body needs to be burnt or buried under the earth subsequent to death, Eswara expects us to treat this Deham (body) as dead wood when one is very much alive.
Accordingly Eswara gave that capability to the human mind. In the words of a great thinker John Milton, the human mind is its own place and in its own place can make a heaven of hell , a hell of heaven. That is why the human mind creates its own dream world in dreaming state and undergoes pleasures or pains accordingly..
If a spiritual seeker starts treating Deham (body) as dead wood when he/she is very much alive especially in the old age his mind would be disconnected from Deham(body) which is Anityam (temporary). As Deham is a true replication of Lokam(world) , he would be mentally disconnected from Lokam (world) also. This disconnection of mind with Deham(body) as well as Lokam(world) when one is alive causes connection of mind with Eswara/ Nityam/Ekam. Thus when mind remains in its own state/ Swa Desam, the state would be equal to Bhuvana Trayam as stated by Sri Sankara Bhagavatpada in Annapoorna Ashthakam.

Cultivation of good thoughts is good conduct (dharma). When we protect dharma, dharma will protect us in turn (Dharmo rakshati rakshitaha). If you hurt dharma, you will be hurt in return! When our own mind generates good thoughts, it protects us. Our own mind can harm us as well. How? It harms us through its bad thoughts! Hence, our mind is responsible for all our difficulties, troubles, and miseries. So, keep your mind pure and free from bad thoughts. The moment a thought arises in your mind, use your discrimination to know: is it good or bad? When you begin such analysis, the speed of your thoughts will decrease. If on the other hand, you immediately act as per your thoughts, their speed will increase. Therefore, take the time to control the thought process through thorough enquiry. First enquire, then act. Start early, drive slowly, reach safely. If you slow down your thoughts, you will definitely arrive safely!
