A Stanza

Lyla

Metrical pattern used and word breaks in the lines do not coincide, in my verse above. Which is the right thing to do.  To know why and what are some recognized musical and sensuous usages of rhymes and words, Please Refer to Barbara Stoler Miller's  book – The Gitagovinda of Jayadeva, Love Song of the Dark Lord  -Introduction page 12, in particular, paragraph Four. Syncopations are highly valued in jazz, hip-hop and rap to this day.

Even though Gita govindam, is one big pleasure pot, and will remain so forever, this copy-cat poem has no erotic value.  It does diddly-squat. Just a pain in the neck exercise, for no good reason, in my opinion.

Our Decline

O Dear, O Dear, O Dear, I hear

The cruel axe has fallen again.

We are twenty one in our gen; Gone

This time is the eldest and a surgeon.

As we all grew as one big bunch

The family mice are running ouch!

Up and down the Clock

Like in Hickory Dickory Dock.

Still, who wants to be the next one!

But, it is inevitable sooner than later

It will be an Agatha Christie's Scarer -

"And Then There Were None."

Here in Naples

An early morning shower

An Escada

A clapped pearl on the ear lobes

A let loose hair,

A dab of lipstick,

A spray of Channel

A white new Mercedes to drive

A book in the Fendi tote

A Tory Burch to walk in sand, for pancakes next to water

Is all it takes for a woman to be happy.

Loved reading 'Verdict' – a play by Agatha Christie - From my Franklin Library of Mystery Masterpieces Collection. Beautiful introduction to her plays by Ira Levin.

As long as we revolve around sense objects, we can't evolve towards Krishna

We all want to be happy. Happiness is best found by evolving to a higher level of consciousness, from our present material consciousness to spiritual consciousness. At the spiritual level, we can connect with the supreme spiritual reality, the all-attractive supreme person, Krishna, thereby accessing a steadier, deeper, richer happiness.

Unfortunately, if we are attached to material sense objects, then our consciousness keeps revolving around those objects, looking for some opportunity to enjoy them. For example, alcoholics think of alcohol compulsively. Even if they travel to a distant country, their mind will still keep going back to a bar, in search for alcohol.

Similarly, as long as we are attached to worldly objects, we can't go towards Krishna. We may practice bhakti, and that bhakti practice will be beneficial, but it won't take us much towards Krishna Why not? Because he exists at the spiritual level of reality. To evolve towards him means that our consciousness needs to be free to rise to the spiritual level.. Thankfully, even if we are attached to worldly things, we can still practice bhakti-yoga. Krishna is so merciful that he makes himself accessible to us even while we are still within the orbit of worldly objects. We can connect with him by cultivating a mood of devotional surrender.

The Bhagavad-gita (07.14) indicates that the formidable force of illusion can be surmounted by those who surrender to Krishna. By such surrender, we place ourselves in the gravity pull of Krishna. That is, our contact with Krishna through surrender increases our attraction to him, for he reveals his all-attractiveness.

The more we become absorbed in Krishna, the more that absorption raises us towards him, thereby pulling us out of the orbit of the sense object to spiritual consciousness.

Think it over:

How do sense objects keep us trapped in their orbit?

While still being in the orbit of sense objects, how can we access Krishna?

How does Krishna pull us towards him?

Mumbai Darshan Post 23- Swami Shuddhabodhananda ji

Two weeks prior I had given Swamiji a difficult to procure publication from Sringeri (The Multifaceted Jivanmukta, which Prasad Krishnan ji i and his wife Sharada ji had kindly gifted us) that Swamiji wished to read. I had also borrowed Swamiji's copy of his commentary on the Brahma Sutra Bhashya (Chatussutri) with notes on which topics are addressed where, which I in turn had to return. Since his residence was a few blocks away from where we were, I checked to see if Swamiji was available for me to pick up TMJ and drop off BSB. He was.

My father and I went to meet Swamiji and he shared with us beautiful snippets from the life of Sri Abhinava Vidyateertha Mahaswamiji, whom he hold in the highest regard.

Everytime I think of Jyeshtha Sannidhanam I cannot help but be inspired by his peerless jnana, vidvattam, karuna, siddhi and vinayam. How can a person of such accomplishment and learning even exist among us? It boggles the mind and fills the heart with Bhakti. I daresay looking at the Jagadguru inspires as much (if not more) awe than when I see an image of Adi Shankaracharya. Perhaps it is the temporal closeness that makes me feel that way. But one thing is certain, the existence of such individuals validate for us the kind offerings of Veda mata, since the essence of ShAstra culminates and finds the highest expression in their being. To me the Jagadgurus are bhagavAn. Bhava shankara deshika me sharanam!

There are two kinds of Bhajans - one is Khanda Bhajan and the other, Akhanda Bhajan. The former is for a specific time, like the bhajans held for a limited period either in the morning or evening. On the other hand, Akhanda Bhajan involves constant contemplation on God in the morning, evening or even during the night. It is constant contemplation on God during all the three states - the waking, dream and deep sleep. It is sarvada sarvakaleshu sarvatra Harichintanam - thinking of God constantly, at all times and at all places. The divine name is highly potent. Each one of the several names of God has one type of power specific to it. If you wish to make good use of this power and derive lasting benefit out of it, you have to participate in Akhanda bhajan. In order to attain purity, it is not enough if chanting of the divine name is confined to a limited period. It has to be a continuous spiritual exercise throughout one's life. Then only the divine name gets imprinted on one's heart.
