If you visit holy places like going for a picnic without necessary mental preparation to receive God's Grace, you will be a nuisance, spoiling the atmosphere of the sacred place. You go from place to place, like postal parcels, collecting impressions on the outer wrapper, not on the core of your being. You do not allow the holiness of the place to act on your mind. As a result of the pilgrimage, your habits must change for the better, your outlook must widen, your inward look must become deeper and become more steady. You must realise the omnipresence of God, and the Oneness of Humanity. You must learn tolerance and patience, charity and service. After the pilgrimage is over, sitting in your own home and ruminating over your experiences, you must determine to seek the higher, the richer and the more real experience of God-realisation. I bless you that you may form that determination and strive step by step to achieve that Goal.

A home is filled with love, with the sacrifice that love involves, the joy that love radiates, and the peace that love imparts. The brick and mortar structure where parents and children spend their lives is a house, not a home; neither children yearn for it nor parents find peace therein. In your homes, one discipline all of you must heed is - the control of the senses! If you give them free rein, they will drag you into calamity. Education must render you monarch of your talents which are your tools for acquiring knowledge. The eye, the ear, the tongue are like wild horses that have no reins; learn the art of meditation (dhyana) by which the senses can be controlled and the will directed inwards, towards the mastery of feelings and emotions. Not just homes, nations that have no bridle on its sensuality can never thrive or survive.

Happiness is not a product of gratification, it is a byproduct of dedication We all long for happiness. Today's culture declares that we can become happy by gratifying our senses. The more gratification we have, the happier we will be. Or so we are told.

Whatever pleasure sensual gratification gives, it is short-lived. Moreover, it is superficial – it satisfies our flesh, not our heart.
Let's consider the times when we had immense gratification such as eating a lot or watching a lot of movies. Would we count those moments as our life's most fulfilling moments? Unlikely. Even if we got pleasure in those moments, we want something more than mere pleasure – we want meaningful pleasure. We want to do something that counts.
Introspection will show that most fulfilling are those moments when we were absorbed in doing something creative or in working for some cause bigger than ourselves. And at those moments, we were not really concerned about getting pleasure; we were absorbed in giving our best to what we were doing. In such moments of dedication deep fulfillment came as a byproduct.
Gita wisdom reveals the biggest cause we can dedicate ourselves to: Krishna and his service. He is the all-attractive reservoir of all happiness. He is everyone's well-wisher (05.29) and wants everyone to relish the highest happiness. When we connect with him internally by practicing yoga, putting aside consideration of sensual gratification, we access imperishable satisfaction (05.21). And bhakti-yoga is so inclusive as to utilize even our externals. Our possessions and positions, our talents and interests – they all can be used to serve Krishna.
Therefore, let's dedicate ourselves to serving Krishna: to making room for him in our own hearts by disciplined bhakti-yoga practice and to bringing him into others' hearts, thereby making a positive change in the world. In that dedication, we will find the highest satisfaction.
Think it over:
Why does sensual gratification not fulfill our longing for happiness? Dedication provides the deepest satisfaction – recollect any instances when you realized this. How can we dedicate ourselves to serving Krishna?

We talk frequently about death without actually talking about death "Ten things to do before you die" – such lists are often found in self-help circles. Most readers, however, focus on the things to do, not on death.
Though we talk frequently about death as depicted in news, movies and so forth, we hardly ever actually talk about death. We rarely think of death as something that will happen to us, especially as something that can happen in the near future. Of course, if we are asked whether we are mortal, we will answer yes. But that admission has a hollowness and remoteness to it, as if it referred to someone else.
If we unflinchingly contemplate death, we will be forced to ask ourselves: Does anything last beyond death? If death destroys everything, then what matters ultimately? Pertinently, the Bhagavad-gita indicates that knowledge-seekers ponder life's inescapable evils such as death (13.09), thereby spurring themselves to seriously enquire about life's spiritual side (13.12).
Won't dwelling on death be life-sapping? Not necessarily. It can be life-expanding, especially if we are guided by Gita wisdom.
The Gita explains that we are essentially souls who belong to an arena beyond death. We can attain that arena by raising our consciousness to the indestructible, spiritual level. Our consciousness resides wherever we are most attached. To raise our consciousness, we need to become attached to spiritual reality. Gita wisdom introduces us to the all-attractive supreme spiritual reality, Krishna, and helps us become attached to him by practicing bhakti-yoga.
Guided with spiritual knowledge, we won't restrict our to-do-before-death list to things that will purportedly help us experience life fully before death. Instead, we will focus on those things that will help us shift our attachment to Krishna. Thereby, as we become increasingly, lovingly absorbed in Krishna and his service, we will relish life before death – and eternally thereafter too.
Think it over:
Even while talking about death, how do we not actually talk about death? How can contemplating death be life-expanding? How will spiritual knowledge change our to-do-before-death list?
