The 12 Common Habits That Undermine Your Health Bad habits are easily gained and inherited from our family and parents, but some of these bad habits are sneaky culprits that seem harmless at first sight. For example, what is the harm in replacing a newspaper with a smartphone during a bathroom break? Or why would holding in a sneeze be dangerous to your health? http://www.ba-bamail.com/content.aspx?emailid=32121#reg
Well, it turns out that all of these and more seemingly harmless habits can pose a serious risk to your health and wellbeing. To see our list of harmful everyday habits, continue reading.

1. Postponing a bathroom break
What are the health dangers?
Bladder and kidney disease. Intestinal problems, particularly fissures. Holding it in is very harmful to your health. The bladder muscles can become constrained and it can lead to not being able to empty your bladder completely or not being able to control your bladder at all. These problems, in turn, create a habitat for bacteria, which cause bladder and kidney infection..
On the digestive side of things, postponing that bathroom break can lead to constipation and tears in the intestines called fissures. These are very painful and prone to bleeding. They form when you're straining too much as a result of constipation.
2. Holding in a sneeze
What are the health dangers?
Can cause ear infections. You can tear your throat or esophagus. While it may seem like a polite thing to do in certain situations, you should never hold in a sneeze because it is very dangerous, especially for people prone to ear infections and problems with blood pressure.
Not only can it lead to nosebleeds, headaches, and dizziness, but also to painful inner ear infections, sinusitis or worse. For example, in 2016 a 34-year-old British man was admitted to a hospital after stifled his sneeze, which led to a tear in his throat.
3. Taking hot showers What are the health dangers? Headaches and dizziness.. Irritates your skin and scalp. I know that a hot shower feels amazing, but it is actually very bad for your skin and hair. Taking a hot shower worsens whatever skin or hair condition you have. If your hair gets greasy fast, washing it with hot water will make it dirty even faster.
People with dry and sensitive skin, on the other hand, will see that their skin becomes even redder and more sensitive after the hot shower, stripping it of the much-needed moisture. Finally, people with high blood pressure should stay away from a hot shower because it can make them dizzy and cause headaches.

4. Using toothpicks What are the health dangers?
Gum disease. When something gets stuck in your teeth, it's much safer to use dental floss and not toothpicks, as the latter can potentially ruin the tooth enamel at the base of the tooth and irritate the gums, leading to gum disease. Toothpicks are not as effective as brushes and floss at cleaning the teeth either and the often worsen the problem by pushing the particles that are stuck even further in the gums or in-between teeth.

5. Chewing on hard objects
What are the health dangers?
Infection. Dental problems. Very much like the previous habit, chewing on hard objects can harm your enamel and cause fractures. However, if you chew on different objects, such as pens, it can also introduce different bacteria to your mouth and cause infection.
6. Sleeping face down
What are the health dangers?
Neck pain. Blood circulation. Aging skin. When you sleep on your stomach, it constrains your neck muscles and compresses the already-vulnerable vertebrae. Over time, it can irritate your spinal cord and cause neck pain.

The unnatural position of your spine when sleeping face down also worsens the blood supply to the neck and head, which causes problems with blood circulation.
Finally, some dermatologists claim that sleeping on your face can make your face age faster because of the wrinkles caused during sleep.
7. Shelling seeds with your teeth What are the health dangers?
Tooth decay
Shelling sunflower or pumpkin seeds with your teeth is a terrible way to treat your teeth. Dentists report that it can cause fractures and loss of enamel. So, buy the seeds without the shells or use your hands to shell them instead.
8. Chewing a lot of gum
What are the health dangers?
Tooth decay. Stomach issues.
Higher production of saliva also affects how long your fillings will last and wears down the enamel, so it's not even beneficial for the teeth..You will need to sacrifice the freshness and fun of chewing gum to your overall health, as it turns out that chewing it frequently may affect your stomach and teeth. When you chew gum, it stimulates the production of saliva and digestive juices in the stomach, which can lead to everything from acid reflux to peptic ulcers.
Higher production of saliva also affects how long your fillings will last and wears down the enamel, so it's not even beneficial for the teeth.

9. Constantly touching your eyes and face What are the health dangers?
Conjunctivitis. Skin problems.
Similarly, rubbing your eyes can irritate them, make them watery and bring bacteria into your eye area. Worst-case scenario, you can get conjunctivitis, an eye infection that is very unpleasant and painful.Touching your skin with dirty hands is a known cause of acne and herpes, especially if you already have those conditions and keep picking on your skin.
Similarly, rubbing your eyes can irritate them, make them watery and bring bacteria into your eye area. Worst-case scenario, you can get conjunctivitis, an eye infection that is very unpleasant and painful.

10. Reading while lying down What are the health dangers?
Neck pain. Eye strain. Back problems.
I think there is no need to repeat how your posture is very important to your health, but it is crucial for you to know that reading or using a device while lying down can deform the natural curvature of the spine. It can also shift your neck forwards, which in turn strains and shortens the neck muscles, and that's how you get neck pain.

To read in bed safely just follow these tips:

1. Use a pillow to sit up instead of lying down.
2. Keep the book at least 30 cm away from your eyes to prevent eye strain.
3. Don't read while lying down on your side or on your stomach, it's even worse than simply lying down on your back because it curves the spine in an unnatural way and also causes eye strain.
11. Licking or blowing on a scratch or wound What are the health dangers?
Hinders the healing. Infection.
Instead, you have a lot of different bacteria in your mouth, which will slow down the healing process and in rare cases, it can even cause infection. So it's a better idea to use some antibacterial ointment on the wound and cover it up with a band-aid.It is a myth that licking or blowing on a fresh wound will make it heal faster. Though most mammals, such as dogs, have some antibacterial compounds in their saliva, people have only trace amounts of those compounds in their saliva.
12. Using devices during a bathroom break What are the health dangers?
Hemorrhoids. Spreading bacteria. This harmful habit makes you spread bacteria all over your home and body without even knowing it. Reserve your smartphone to the living room.
Also, when you sit on the toilet for extended periods of time, you weaken your intestinal muscles and strain your intestinal blood vessels. So, don't stay on the toilet for more than 5 minutes, or else you risk getting hemorrhoids.

Why am I so black?
Why Did You Make Me Black Lord....?
Lord.... Why did you make me black?
Why did you make someone the world would hold back?
Black is the color of dirty clothes, of grimy hands and feet...
Black is the color of darkness, of tired beaten streets...
Why did you give me thick lips, a broad nose and kinky hair?
Why did you create someone who receives the hated stare?

Black is the color of the bruised eye when someone gets hurt...
Black is the color of darkness, black is the color of dirt.
Why are my bone structure so thick, my hips and cheeks so high?
Why are my eyes brown, and not the color of the sky?
Why do people think I'm useless?
How come I feel so used?
Why do people see my skin and think I should be abused?
Lord, I just don't understand...What is it about my skin?
Why it is some people want to hate me and not know the person within?
Black is what people are 'Labeled' when others want to keep them away...
Black is the color of shadows cast...Black is the end of the day.
Lord you know my own people mistreat me and you know this just isn't right...
They don't like my hair, they don't like my skin,
As they say I'm too dark or too light!
Lord, don't you think it's time to make a change?
Why don't you redo creation and make everyone the same?
God's Reply:
Why did I make you black?
Why did I make you black?
I made you in the color of coal from which beautiful diamonds are formed....
I made you in the color of oil, the black gold which keeps people warm.
Your color is the same as the rich dark soil that grows the food you need....
Your color is the same as the black stallion and panther, Oh what majestic creatures indeed!
All colors of the heavenly rainbow can be found throughout every nation...
When all these colors are blended, you become my greatest creation!
Your hair is the texture of lamb's wool, such a beautiful creature is he...
I am the shepherd who watches them,
I will ALWAYS watch over thee!
You are the color of the midnight sky, I put star glitter in your eyes...
There's a beautiful smile hidden behind your pain...That's why your cheeks are so high!
You are the color of dark clouds from the hurricanes I create in September....
I made your lips so full and thick, so when you kiss...they will remember!
Your stature is strong, your bone structure thick to withstand the burden of time...
The reflection you see in the mirror, that image that looks back, That is MINE!
So get off your knees, look in the mirror and tell me what you see?
I didn't make you in the image of darkness...
I made you in the image of ME!

Why do we offer a coconut to god?
The coconut is the purest form of offering that one can render unto God. The fruit is unique in many respects.
The sweet, nectar-like water that it holds is pure and untouched by the human hand. The coarsely knit outer fibers of the coconut represent the jealousy, greed, lust, selfishness and other vices of man, which must be broken up and removed if one is to penetrate and reach the white inner purity and thereafter taste the sweet untouched nectar of spiritual purity and bliss.

The marks on the coconut make it look like the head of a human being. The coconut is broken, symbolising the breaking of the ego or throwing out the EGO. The juice within, representing the inner tendencies (vaasanas) is offered along with the white kernel - the mind, to the Lord.
The eyes also represent the three eyes of man - the two physical eyes plus the third or 'inner eye' can penetrate the false, outer facade and reach the ultimate truth. It alone distinguishes right from wrong.
The composition of the coconut is characteristic of the three elements of man. The hard, outer shell, with its coarse fibers, represents the physical composition. The inner white fruit represents man's psychological element, and the untouched water signifies his spiritual composition.
It is also offered on occasions like weddings, festivals, the use of a new vehicle, bridge, house etc. It is offered in the sacrificial fire whilst performing homa.
Having been offered to God by way of prayer, the coconut is then eaten by Indians as blessed food or prasadham which has now received divine vibrations from God and will therefore give us good health and prosperity.

The power of silence https://www.facebook.com/notes/paritala-gopi-krishna/the-power-of-silence/303247356415/
Speech makes friends or foes,
Silence befriends all.
Speech demands respect,
Silence commands it.
Speech is earth-bound,
Silence is heaven-bound.
Speech educates,
Silence exalts.
Speech is subjective,
Silence is objective.
Speech has regrets,
Silence has none.
Speech has limitations,
Silence is boundless.
Speech needs effort,
Silence a lot more.
Speech is human,
Silence is Divine.
While speaking you are heard by creatures,
In silence you hear the creator.
Silence leads to a stillness of the mind,
Then to introspection,
Then to self-cleansing,
Finally to liberation.

The definite sign of a spiritually minded person is his silent, tolerant attitude. Bees, until they have found the flower and tasted the honey, make a loud, buzzing noise; but the moment they taste the honey, they become absorbed and cease to make a sound. So it is with us. Before we find the truth, we argue and dispute and challenge others who differ from us; but when we come in contact with something deeper, we grow silent and do not try to force it on other minds. We try to live it in our own life inevitably it reaches other lives.

Spiritual qualities are infectious just as evil qualities are. One bad person can drag down many others by his evil propensities; while those who have noble ideals and loving characters uplift others merely by their silent influence.

When we study external conditions, it is sometimes very discouraging to see how slowly this influence works; but it can never fail absolutely. And if we wish to produce a lasting effect on any character, it is better not to have it work too quickly. When we set fire to hay, it makes a tremendous blaze, then in a moment it is all over; while a log fire, which takes a long time to kindle, burns steadily and is dependable. Similarly in spiritual awakening, if the person is over- enthusiastic and emotionally excited, he exhausts his forces and the effect wears off.

If, on the contrary, his deeper nature is touched, it may not show outwardly, but the result endures.
Limit yourself to observing. Take in everything that comes to your awareness whether big, small, trite or ordinary. Content of awareness is less important than the quality of awareness. As quality improves, so silence deepens, you will experience. You will discover, to your delight that revelation is not knowledge.

It is power: a mysterious power

Practice Creative Silence

Light of wisdom
Questioner: Is the thought `I am God' or `I am the supreme being' helpful?

Ramana Maharshi: `I am that I am.' `I am' is God, not thinking `I am God.' Realize `I am' and do not think `I am.' `Know I am God,' it is said, and not `Think I am God.` All talk of surrender is like pinching brown sugar from a brown sugar image of Lord Ganesa and offering it as naivedya [food offering] to the same Lord Ganesa. You say you offer your body, soul and all possessions to God. Were they yours that you could offer them? At best, you can only say, `I falsely imagined till now that all these which are yours were mine. Now I realize they are yours. I shall no more act as if they are mine.' This knowledge that there is nothing but God or Self, that I and mine don't exist and that only the Self exists, is jnana

Bhagavan's Mysterious Assistance --- Kunju Swami:
I approached the ticket counter at 5:30 p. m. to buy my ticket to Tiruvannamalai, but to my amazement the clerk refused to sell me one! Nonplussed, I was standing transfixed when a kind elderly man nearby informed me that the town of Tiruvannamalai is quarantined because of a plague epidemic and so no tickets to that destination can be sold. He advised me to buy a ticket to Tirukkoviloor, and to quietly get off at Tiruvannamalai when the train stops briefly to unload mail. Tirukkoviloor is the next station after Tiruvannamalai. When asked for a ticket to Tirukkoviloor, the ticket clerk asked me for additional money. I didn't have it. Crushed with unimaginable frustration, I stood to one side thinking of Bhagavan and overcome by sorrow. When there was only a few minutes left before the train to Tiruvannamalai was to arrive - wonder of wonders - the mystery of Bhagavan's grace descended upon me! Between the two rails, just a short distance from where I stood, a quarter-rupee coin lay glittering. I immediately picket it up and ran to the ticket counter. My train arrived in the station the very moment I was handed the ticket to Tirukkoviloor. Thrilled with the thought of Bhagavan's grace on my poor self, I got on the train and found a seat.

The monkey and the apples (Story)
Humans cling to material objects like the monkey clinging to wooden apples
There once was a happy monkey wandering the jungle, eating delicious fruit when hungry, and resting when tired. One day he came upon a house, where he saw a bowl of the most beautiful apples. He took one in each hand and ran back into the forest. He sniffed the apples and smelled nothing.

He tried to eat them, but hurt his teeth. They were made of wood, but they were beautiful, and when the other monkeys saw them, he held onto them even tighter.
He admired his new possessions proudly as he wandered the jungle. They glistened red in the sun, and seemed perfect to him. He became so attached to them, that he didn't even notice his hunger at first.
A fruit tree reminded him, but he felt the apples in his hands. He
couldn't bear to set them down to reach for the fruit. In fact, he
couldn't relax, either, if he was to defend his apples. A proud, but
less happy monkey continued to walk along the forest trails.
The apples became heavier, and the poor little monkey thought about leaving them behind. He was tired, hungry, and he couldn't climb trees or collect fruit with his hands full. What if he just let go?
Letting go of such valuable things seemed crazy, but what else could he do? He was so tired. Seeing the next fruit tree, and smelling it's fruit was enough. He dropped the wooden apples and reached up for his meal. He was happy again.
Like that little monkey, we sometimes carry things that seem too
valuable to let go. A man carries an image of himself as "productive" carries it like a shiny wooden apple. But in reality, his busyness leaves him tired, and hungry for a better life. Still, letting go seems crazy. Even his worries are sacred apples - they prove he's "doing everything he can." He holds onto them compulsively.

TAKE A REALLY DEEP BREATH
Just Stay
A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside.

"Your son is here," she said to the old man.
She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened.
Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.
The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile..
He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.
Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.
Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she
Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.
"Who was that man?" he asked.
The nurse was startled, "He was your father," she answered.
"No, he wasn't," the Marine replied. "I never saw him before in my life."
"Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?"
"I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here.
When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed."
I came here tonight to find a Mr. x.
His Son was Killed today, and I was sent to inform him. What was this Gentleman's Name?
The Nurse with Tears in Her Eyes Answered,
Mr. x.............
The next time someone needs you ... just be there. Stay.

A Story about heaven https://www.facebook.com/notes/ramesh-chivukula/a-story-about-heaven/284592072416/

itan that he was ;
He decided to take on his father Brahma . He asked him why he was being so unfair to poor souls which could be accomodated in heaven so very easily when they were in torment in hell and earth.

Brahma , the wisest , smiled and said " My Son , who is preventing people from entering heaven ? If they choose not to ; how can i help ? "

Narada : Just give me the power i shall bring more desrving people to heaven

Brahma : So be it , son ; Wish you good luck !

Narada comes down to earth ; the first being he encounters is a pig which is enjoying rolling in filth.
Narada asks the pig : Mr Pig , I take pity on you . I can transport you to heaven this very moment ; will you come ? The Pig says : Oh thank you very much Mr Narad ; ya i shall be delighted to come over there ; but on one condition !

No problem says Narada , just ask.

Pig asks : Will you ensure that this filth will be there even in heaven ; so that i can continue my play ?

Narada bows his head down and goes away .

He then comes across a middle aged businessman who had just suffered some losses and was praying at the local temple very fervently. Narada decides that he is a good candidate for heaven. He approaches him and outlines the plan and his requests his approval. The business magnate Mr Vaid shakes his head slowly and says : Mr Narad ; I can understand where you are coming from . But you see in business loss and gain are part of the game. I have suffered a huge loss no yes ; but am quite confident I can make up and build my business over again . After all I have to hand over the business in good shape to my sons , otherwise they will curse me. Kindly go away , am not interested.

Narada is not one to cow down so easily ; he says : I will go for now but will come back again to give you another chance after few years .

A decade passes by . Mr Vaid has prospered and his sons are well settled. Mr Vais spends half an hour daily in the puja room. On one such day Narada catches him again . Ah , now you are free , arent you ? Come let us go to heaven .

Mr Vaid loses his temper . Mr Narad , just now i have started enjoying fuits of my hard work ; my sons have taken over my group of companies and they are doing very well . Am quite happy being a non active Director . I spend lots of time with my grandchildren ; i visit temples and offer pujas. I go for periodic pilgrimages. Am enjoying good health . Am so happy ; why do you pester me thus ? Why should i forego this happiness here and look for something of which I know not ? Please get lost ; otherwise I shall call my chowdikar ( security man ) and command him to shoot you down !

Narada goes away in shame . But he is more than determined to make Mr Vaid visit heaven atleast once.

Few decades have passed. Mr Vaid is a sickly old man ; he has been confined to a dark room and he is not allowed to have visitors. His grandchildren are afraid to come near him. Narada decides that this is the right time to corner him. He appears before him and asks Mr Vaid ; do you recogonise me ? Mr Vaid's eyesight is poor but he could make out from the voice that it was Narad.

Well , are you ready now ? Your children no longer care for you and you are very sick as well . Now is the time for you , this is your last chance .

Mr Vaid speaks slowly but surely nodding his head sadly says : See Mr Narad , my children might have forsaken me ; but in my eyes theye still my own . Also seeing the grandchildren romping about this palatial house ( built over the years through my sweat ) gives me great pleasure. Everyone in the house is busy ; now am the chowdikar in this house . I need to guard this house . Am content with whatever little am fed and I live through the eyes of my children , grand and great grand children . Please go away . I dont have the strenght to argue ; please leave me alone for God's Sake !!

Narada atlast realises Brahma's wisdom and goes back to his singing ways...

Aum Shaanthi ..Hare Krsna ..Amen !

The greateness of Omkaram is highlighted by the following saying.
japena dahate paapam praanaayamaistathaa malam dhyaanena janmaniryaatam dhaarnaabhischa muchyate...

"The Omkara burns off our sins when we chant it, physical and mental impurity is removed through praanaayama with omkaram, the sins accumulated through births are burnt of through meditation on omkarama and by going through the eight steps of ashtangayoga with pranavam, one reaches emancipation from worldy existence for ever.. "
OM ityekaaksharam brahma vyaaharana maamanusmaran yaH prayaati tyajan deham sa yaati paramaam gatim.. in Gita
"Uttening the one supreme work OM which is brhama itself and concentrating his mind on Me, if a person leaves his body in the end, he reaches the supreme state of immortality....." Declared the Blessed Lord Krishna in Bagavat gita.
The importance of Upasana of Gayatri is underlined in the following discussion.

Even though Lord Shiva is present as Vishvamoorthy manifesting himself everywhere, He identified in particular the worshiper of Gayatri and bestows on him all the grace. Yajnavalkya has given the following example:-
"The butter or ghee present in the milk is inherent in the body of the cow.. But in that state the nutrient does nothing special to nourish the body of the cow. But when the cow is milched, and the ghee is extracted and partaken, it nourishes human body (or even the body of the cow itself). Similarly Lord Sadaashiva even though present everywhere does not do anything particular for the benefit of the people unless they perform devout Upasana through Gayatri. For Gayatri Upasakaas Bhagavaan Shambu is the greatest nourisher."
