All of you are wasting time. Time is God. God is described as, Kala kalaya namah - He is the Master of Time. Therefore you should not waste time on unnecessary activities. For example, excessive talk is a waste of time. When you switch on the radio and listen to all unnecessary programmes, electricity is wasted. The body is like a radio receiver. Chanting the Lord's name and singing the glory of God will capture signals of grace. But when you indulge in unnecessary gossip, you waste precious time and energy. When you do wicked or inappropriate deeds, again you waste energy and incur dangerous consequences too. Sanctify your life by adhering to the twin ideals of Truth and Righteousness (Sathya and Dharma). Instead of preaching them, put them into practice. Propagation is 'quantity' while practicing is 'quality'. Quality is always very important. A spoon of cow's milk is much better than a barrel of donkey's milk.

The test of success in bhakti is taste for bhakti When we practice bhakti, we may wonder, "How do I know if I am progressing and succeeding on my spiritual journey?"

On the spiritual journey, our destination is Krishna, or more specifically, love for Krishna. And if we are enriched with love for him, we will naturally long to practice the activities that connect us with him. Bhakti-yoga is the time-honored process that offers us a rich gamut of practices to connect with him. Therefore, by our practice of bhakti and our progress towards Krishna, our taste for bhakti activities should increase and our desire for connecting with Krishna should increase. Pertinently, the Bhagavad-gita (12.09) asserts that the disciplined practice of conscientious bhakti strengthens our desire for Krishna.
By ensuring that we have our criteria of success right, we won't get sidetracked if we don't happen to get external results such as prosperity or popularity. Many people practice religion to gain more wealth and others to gain more followers. Those of us who are earnest seekers may not start our spiritual practices with that intention – we may genuinely want to grow in our love for Krishna
But over time, as we keep practicing bhakti in the material world where our consciousness is highly vulnerable to be contaminated by materialism, we too may get distracted by worldly considerations. Thus, we may start subtly craving for prosperity or popularity, or comparing ourselves with others in terms of who gets more prosperity or popularity.
Of course, if we get these worldly gifts, we can use them in the service of Krishna. But to use them, we need to be sufficiently strongly attached to Krishna to avoid getting attached to them.
That's where the reminder that the test of bhakti is taste for bhakti will keep us safe and strong in our spiritual journey.
Think it over:
What should be happening if we are growing spiritually? What external results do many people crave from bhakti? How may we get distracted in bhakti? How can we protect ourselves?

To believe whatever we see is to live like an animal Some people assert, "Seeing is believing." Their intent in making this assertion may be good – they don't want to unintelligently, gullibly believe anything and everything.

Despite their good intention, their assertion is problematic. Why? Because "seeing is believing," if applied literally, will stunt human knowledge. We grow in knowledge not merely by seeing and believing, but by thinking about what we see and integrating our observations into coherent inferences.
Consider how science progresses. Merely by seeing and believing? Not at all. It progresses by using specific observations as starting points to arrive at universal principles. Newton didn't just believe what he saw when an apple fell in front of him. He thought about what he saw and thereby inferred the principle of gravity. Suppose, instead of Newton, a monkey had seen the apple fall. It wouldn't have thought about what had made the apple fall – it would have just believed that the apple had fallen for it to eat and gobbled it.
Just as scientific knowledge grows by making inferences from observations, so does spiritual knowledge. When we see people, we may believe what we see and presume that they are just their physical bodies. But if we think about what we see, we will realize that people have consciousness, whereas the physical body is made of insentient matter. Where does consciousness come from? From a nonmaterial, invisible source: the soul (Bhagavad-gita 15.10).
If we restrict our vision only to the visible, we won't gain any deep knowledge. "Seeing is believing" will sentence us to an ignorant, animalistic existence. But if we see and think about what we see, and then decide what we believe, then we will grow in all-round knowledge, we will grow in spiritual insight, and we will grow in a life of meaning and fulfillment.
Think it over:
How would "seeing is believing" stunt scientific progress? How does spiritual knowledge grow by the same method as scientific knowledge? How can going beyond "seeing is believing" help us grow? https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gitadaily.com%2F%3Fp%3D19963&picture=http://www.gitadaily.com/wp-content/images/Bhagavad-Gita-Chapter-15-Text-10.jpg http://twitter.com/share?text=To%20believe%20whatever%20we%20see%20is%20to%20live%20like%20an%20animal&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gitadaily.com%2F%3Fp%3D19963&hashtags= https://plus.google..com/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gitadaily.com%2F%3Fp%3D19963 http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gitadaily.com%2F%3Fp%3D19963&media=http://www.gitadaily.com/wp-content/images/Bhagavad-Gita-Chapter-15-Text-10.jpg&description=Some%20people%20assert%2C%20%E2%80%9CSeeing%20is%20believing.%E2%80%9D%20Their%20intent%20in%20making%20this%20assertion%20may%20be%20good%20%E2%80%93%20they%20don%E2%80%99t%20want%20to%20unintelligently%2C%20gullibly%20believe%20anything%20and%20everything.Despite%20their%20good%20intention%2C%20their%20assertion%20is%20problematic.%20Why%3F%20Because%20%E2%80%9Cseeing%20is%20believing%2C%E2%80%9D%20if%20applied%20literally%2C... http://bhagavadgitaclass.com/bhagavad-gita-chapter-15-text-10

Happiness Comes from Giving.
May every day of your life bring you fresh hopes for tomorrow – because hope gives all of us our reason for trying.
May each new day bring a feeling of excitement , joy, and wonderful sense of expectation . Expect the best , and you'll get it.

May you find peace in simple things , because those are the ones that will always be there.
May you remember the good times and forget the sorrow and pain , for the good times will remind you of how special your life has been.
===
This story is about a beautiful, expensively dressed lady who complained to her psychiatrist that she felt that her whole life was empty, it had no meaning. So, the lady went to visit a counselor to seek out happiness. The counselor called over the old lady who cleaned the office floors.
The counselor then said to the rich lady "I'm going to ask Mary here to tell you how she found happiness. All I want you to do is listen to her."
So the old lady put down her broom and sat on a chair and told her story:
"Well, my husband died of malaria and three months later
my only son was killed by a car.
I had nobody... I had nothing left. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat,
I never smiled at anyone, I even thought of taking my own life.
Then one evening a little kitten followed me home from work.
Somehow I felt sorry for that kitten. It was cold outside, so I decided to let the kitten in. I got it some milk, and the kitten licked the plate clean.
Then it purred and rubbed against my leg and for the first time in months, I smiled.
Then I stopped to think, if helping a little kitten could make me smile, may be doing something for people could make me happy.
So the next day I baked some biscuits and took them to a neighbor
who was sick in bed.
Every day I tried to do something nice for someone. It made me so happy to see them happy.
Today, I don't know of anybody who sleeps and eats better than I do.
I've found happiness, by giving it to others."
When she heard that the rich lady cried. She had everything that money could buy, but she had lost the things which money cannot buy.
Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

How to Gain Concentration & Confidence --- Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
Seeker's Query:
I am studying in Madras. My final year exams are nearing and I am getting quite tense and I lack confidence. How do I gain confidence? I also have problems concentrating. And I always feel tired. What should I do? Swamiji, please advise.

Poojya Swamiji's Response:
The one aim of any religious routine or practice is to strengthen the mind, heart and intelligence with qualities enriching to each. People do not know this fact, and hence become indifferent to such routines and habits. In the absence of religious routines, one must have substitute disciplines or restraints.
No one's body will be healthy unless it is given the benefit of exercises. Health is peace. Health is strength. First, therefore, take some exercises, during which the tension in the mind will get expelled – exercise has such an effect. So, unfailingly take at least 30 to 40 minute exercises each day. For your age, skipping about 200 times would be very effective, along with exercises.
Next, sit in a place, preferably after bath, creating a holy atmosphere, doing whatever you can for the purpose. Close your eyes, and go on looking into your mind and mind-processes. Mind is internal, and so you cannot look into it with your eyes, or perceive it with any sensory organ.
One part of inner consciousness will have to act and work, in bringing about this observation. Whatever takes place – emotion, thought, idea, reason, memory, knowledge or the rest – must right then and there be sensed. I only want you to sense the processes, and do nothing more and nothing less. By this, you will be involved in your own inner consciousness..
Such observation when rightly done will improve your concentration power, and also take away the tension and diffidence you now seem to have.
Further, if you can get to that level:
Understand that there is a depth, a loftiness in you which is beyond tension, diffidence and conflicts. That is called the Soul-level. It is the real bottom, like that of the sea. It is also something vast like space. Think of that, and feel inspired and strengthened. If the idea catches you up, let me know. I shall give a shape to your contemplation.
Surrender yourself to the supreme Reality, and be at ease. Be confident. This needs no money, education or other skills. Be wholesome and be innocent.. Have faith and draw courage from the inexhaustible source within. You have my blessings and fondness.

Talk 6.
A question was asked by a monk (sannyasi) about how to prevent the mind from being distracted.
M.: You see the objects on forgetting your own Self. If you keep hold of your Self, you will not see the objective world.

Lord, I don't know all of the challenges my friends have,
But YOU know EVERYTHING.
I hear their silence; YOU hear their prayers.
I see their laughter; YOU see their tears.
I see when they give; YOU see what's been taken from them.
I see their beautiful appearance; YOU see the scars in their soul.
I experience their faith; YOU know their doubts.
My prayer for them God, is that YOU give them everything they may need and bless them abundantly…
