Unaffectedness - an essential quality by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
The quality or excellence called unaffectedness is something distinct (than other excellences)

अनादित्वान्निर्गुणत्वात्परमात्मायमव्यय: ।
शरीरस्थोऽपि काैंन्तेय न करोति न लिप्यते ।।
anaaditvaan-nirgunatvaat-paramaatmaayam-avyaya: ।
sharirastho'pi kaunteya na karoti na lipyate ।।
The inmost Soul, being beginningless and free of any attribute, is Imperishable. Though dwelling in the body, it neither does anything nor gets tainted the least.
Transcending all materiality and its laws and processes, this inner Soul, the paramaatmaa, is truly without any kind of involvement or affectation. Being so, it remains imperishable, untouched by anything whatsoever, be it activity or otherwise. Though it is found to be associated with the body, unlike the body it acts not, and hence is not tainted at any time. Complete blemishlessness is its nature.
What does this mean? The description of the inmost Soul becomes characteristic of the Knower. Knowing his own core to be like this, the Knower thus is able to disengage himself from identification with his body, and view it as any other object. Thereby he becomes free of all kinds of bondage and involvement.
Birth is what the body undergoes. The Knower knows that he is devoid of birth. Consequently he is equally devoid of growth, actions and their consequences. Where is then any question of bondage or stain? Let the body be. But all it does has hardly anything to do with the supra-material core within.
Earlier also Krishna had referred to the same unaffectedness (Bhagavadgeeta 5.8,9); Whether seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, eating, walking, sleeping, speaking, leaving, holding, winking or opening – it is all an interplay of the senses and the sense-objects. The Soul, as different from the body, remains different all the time and hence is not touched or tainted at all !

Giving to Others is Grace to Yourself
One night last year I had a marvelous dream. In a big choultry on a hill-top I saw Sri Bhagavan and Sri Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Pitham seated before me. My heart overflowed with joy to see the two great Souls together. Sri Sankaracharya enquired how far I had advanced in my study of Sanskrit. Sri Bhagavan replied to him saying that my Sanskrit knowledge was up to the mark. Thereupon Sri Sankaracharya recited a 'Rik' from the Vedas and asked me to translate the rik. I did it to his satisfaction. Then Tirtham (Holy Water) was brought in a vessel. Sri Bhagavan first took a spoonful and passed it to Sri Sankaracharya who also tasted another spoonful and handed it to me to distribute among the vast crowd of devotees that filled the hall. I went round and as I served the last person, I found that the last drop of Tirtham was gone. Then I brought back the empty vessel. Sri Sankaracharya asked me whether I had taken the Tirtham myself, I replied "No." Then Sri Bhagavan observed "It does not matter. Distribution to others is Prasad (Grace) to yourself."

MOMENTS REMEMBERED REMINISCENCES OF BHAGAVAN RAMANA by V. Ganesan
Tapas Swami-" In 1930, one afternoon, when I entered the Hall I found Bhagavan all alone. Those were days when I was disgusted with life as I had to face too many family problems. In addition, I was entrusted with the supervision of a temple renovation which was a very tedious job. I was depressed and miserable, and had a longing to renounce the world and lead the life of a recluse. Summoning my courage, I approached Bhagavan and said: ' Bhagavan, to pursue spiritual sadhana one has to renounce worldly links, hasn't one?' His answer was a sphynx-like silence! After some time I broached the subject again and said: 'I am not yet
blessed with a reply by Bhagavan!' Bhagavan looked stern and said: 'What do you mean by 'giving up'(something) and 'taking up'(something else)? Where to go, what to take? Everywhere, everything is only the 'I',. Who is to give up what and who is to go where?' He uttered these words with with such sternness that I took them as a reprimand and went out and started crying.

When I went into His presence again, Bhagavan turned to Muruganar and said: 'Look at him! He wants to give up everything and run away. From where have we come to think of going elsewhere? What Is always exists. Where to go and who goes?' But, then, suddenly, Bhagavan's face changed into one of love and compassion.. ......... "

Aditya hrudayam
Aditya hrudayam is a Stotra by Sage Agastya to Lord Sri Rama at the battle field between Ravana and Rama. The great Cosmic Sage Agastya dictates this hymns of Sun God to Sri Rama to ensure Victory to him. Thus forms part of the yuddha Kanda (Canto 107) of Ramayana by Sage Valmiki said to be written around twenty thousand years ago.
Aditya hrudayam contains the innovative hymns with many secrets and hidden meanings. The Jnana, Jnata, and Jneyam is completed as Sage Agastya is the Jnana and the Lord Rama Jnata and the presiding deity Jneyam is Sun in the heart. Thus the Triputi is completed. Hence it has come to be known as Aditya hrudayam.
Further Sage Agastya has stated that success is assured for all those who recite these Sloka thrice a day.
Rama went to exile at the behest of his father King Dasaradha. In the forest Ravana adducted Sita the wife of Rama who waged a righteous war against Ravana to bring back his wife Sita from the clutches of Rakshasa Ravana. In this Context he fought the battle against Ravana. Sage Agastya came there at that time to initiate this Aditya hrudayam to Sri Rama in the irreconceivable situation in the battle for his victory.
It is said that Consciousness in the man and in the cosmos Sun is the same.. Absolute consciousness is being understood only with the help of speech. These mystic words are interwoven in these Slokas. The Slokas third to twenty four Synchronises with the twenty four letters of Gayatri Mantra.
In Aditya hrudayam there are thirty Slokas in total. In this the first and second sloka depicts the arrival of sage Agastya to Sri Rama. The third stated the greatness of the Stotra, the fourth sloka explained about happiness, liberation and knowledge. The fifth will remove the related sins and with hold sorrows. From Sixth to fifteenth the description pertains to self effulgence and impresses that one pervading out side and inside is same. From Sixteenth to twentieth slokas are very important for mantra Japa. Here cosmic greatness of Sun God Surya as the internal Caitanya in us is high lighted. Further the creator is one and not two is impressed. The human body consists Sapta Dhatu's and in this dwells, only paramatma.
The Slokas from Twenty to twenty four are Mantra Slokas extolling Sun God. From twenty fifth to thirtieth the method of recital by Sri Rama and invoking God to bless him with the requisite strength for the victory in the battle field is stated.

Dr. Howard Steingeril, an american scientist, collected Mantras, Hymns and invocations from all over the world and tested their strength in his Physiology Laboratory.. Hindus' Gayatri Mantra produced 110,000 sound waves per second.. This was the highest and was found to be the most powerful hymn in the world. Though the combination of sound or sound waves of a particular frequency, the Mantra is claimed capable of developing specific spritual potentialities. The Hamburg university initiated research into the efficacy of the Gayatri Mantra both on the mental and physical plane of CREATION... The GAYATRI MANTRA is broadcast daily for 15 minutes from 7 P.M. on wards over Radio Paramaribo,
Surinam, South America for the past two years, and in Amsterdam, Holland for the last six months...

GAYATRI MANTRA - ITS MEANING
AUM BHOOR BHUWAH SWAHA,
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASAYA DHEEMAHI
DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODAYAT.
Summary of the Gayatri Mantra
Gayatri Mantra (the mother of the vedas), the foremost mantra in hinduism and hindu beliefs, inspires wisdom. Its meaning is that "May the Almighty God illuminate our intellect to lead us along the righteous path". The mantra is also a prayer to the "giver of light and life" - the sun (savitur). Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life,
Remover of pain and sorrow, The Bestower of happiness,
Oh! Creator of the Universe, May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light, May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction.

Installing God Within? by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
All of you may have devotion to God, but why is it that devotion has not become functional and why is it not wholesome? Have you thought about it? I would like you to talk to God openly, rather than worshipping God. Talk to him whatever you like. Question him, if you so like, when you find his moves disagreeable. Yet be connected to him always. Do not get distanced. Let anything come to your life – good or bad – be fond of him. Rely upon Him every time, in all situations. Such wholesome fondness and reliance will divinize your life entirely.

In fact, you will discover that though your devotion is addressed to God, the devotion belongs to your mind. Thus, the benefit is to your own mind alone. Can you imagine the lofty dimension this will instill in you? An all-fold devotion to the supreme God means the mind becomes all-fold and Supreme! When you think of the "most high", your mind becomes the "most high"! This is one point I have been
trying to make you understand throughout more than fifty years of my disseminational life.
Dear children, understand that all that you think of God becomes yours. It takes place in you, not in God. So be fond of Him. Rely upon Him. And talk to Him. I will even say: You may stop your worship completely; but talk to Him, and talk to Him about anything and everything. Let there be no option, and no selection either.
Always install Him in your heart. In the beginning, you may not be able to do that. Then, you can even imitate the act and say: "I have installed! I have installed!" It may be an unreal statement now, but after some time it will become true. So, go on saying: "Yes. I have installed God in my heart!"
Whatever desire you have, you may express to Him: "My dear God, I have this desire; either fulfil it or get rid of it. The choice is yours. But make my mind full; make my mind abundant; let me have inner affluence and abundance."
If this kind of a wholesome, all-fold and continuous approach is taken up, you will find the changes it brings about are unimaginable. There is no limit to it. It will have its effect in a very short time. I would like at least some of you to try this and let me know after three months.
