Amazing Lines with Deep meanings
Someone has written these beautiful LINES. Read and try to understand the deeper meaning of them.
1. Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout life.

2. Why is a car's windshield so large & the rear view mirror so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, look ahead and move on.
3. Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes a few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.
4. All things in life are temporary. If they are going well, enjoy them, they will not last forever. If they are going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either.
5. Old friends are gold! New friends are diamond! If you get a diamond, don't forget the gold! To hold a diamond, you always need a base of gold!
6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, Nature smiles and says, "Relax, sweetheart; it's just a bend, not the end!"
7. When God solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when God doesn't solve your problems, He knows YOUR abilities.
8. A blind person asked: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" Response: "Yes, losing your vision!"
9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.
10. Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles; it takes away today's PEACE.

The Self Is Not An Experience To Be Gained – Satsang with Pujya Shri Swami Dayananda
Question: Is there not another experience?
Swamiji: It is not an experience to be gained; you have enough experience of yourself. I am saying you are never away from yourself; you are not something to be gained as a new experience. You are already there, seeing me, hearing me. You never go out of the experience of yourself. You are there experiencing yourself in every experience. You are never outside yourself. You never get lost. Everything else, any object, may get lost, but you, the subject, never gets lost. Therefore, there is no question of lack of experience. In fact, you are the essence of every experience. I analyse your experiences about yourself and point out that this is what you are. Therefore there is no question about gaining an experience of atma, I, because atma is the invariable in all experiences. It is not that I must experience myself; it is that I recognize myself in all experiences. I see what I am – in seeing, hearing, walking, talking, thinking, doubting. In all of them what is there is only myself. There is only One and that One is I. To see that One is recognition. There is no experience. Experience is only with reference to an object other than yourself.

Questioner: Perhaps I was confusing the issue because I was not clear.
Swamiji: We are confused and therefore we use wrong words. We use wrong words and therefore we are confused. When we use right words there is no problem. If I use the word 'experience' for knowing myself, I will be confused. Let us stop using that word; knowing myself is a question of self recognition. So what you are asking is, "Is there such a thing as clear knowledge?". Yes. In fact knowledge must be clear. Knowledge is not gradual, but clarity is gradual. Clarity is gradual because I keep creating doubts.
In preparing the mind for self recognition there are things that can be done to have a quiet mind. That quiet mind is experiential. So you may say that experientially you first obtain a quiet mind. That is useful, because without a quiet mind, the teaching does not work.
Question: So breathing exercises ....
Swamiji: Everything like that is experiential.
Questioner: But they are useful?
Swamiji: Everything including asana, pranayama, pratyahara is useful. It all depends upon what you want. They are useful to gain a quiet mind. But if you think these practices are going to solve the problem of knowing yourself, that is not true.

TRANSFORMING ANGER
Mahatma Gandhi provides a perfect example of how anger can be harnessed. As a young, unknown, brown-skinned lawyer travelling in South Africa on business, he was roughly thrown from the train because he refused to surrender his first-class ticket and move to the third-class compartment. He spent a cold, sleepless night on the railway platform.
Later, he said this was the turning point of his life: for on that night, full of anger because of this personal injustice, as well as the countless injustices suffered by so many others every day in South Africa, he resolved not to rest until he had set those injustices right. On that night he conquered his anger and vowed to resist injustice, not by violence or retaliation, but through the loving power of nonviolent resistance, which elevates the consciousness of both oppressed and oppressor.

We may never be called on to liberate a people or lead a vast nation, but Gandhi's example can apply in a small way in our own lives, when we decide to return goodwill for ill will, love for hatred, in the innumerable little acts of daily life.
"I have learned through bitter experience the one supreme lesson to conserve my anger, and as heat conserved is transmitted into energy, even so our anger controlled can be transmuted into a power that can move the world."
Mahatma Gandhi

MAYA in relation to Body,Mind and intellect
"A story to explain "Maya"
A father left a will for his three sons. The will explained how the 17 horses should be distributed among the three sons. The will said: 'Eldest son will get half the stock of horses. Middle son will get 1/9th the stock of horses. And the youngest son will get 1/3rd the stock of horses'
Now the three brothers were puzzled how can father leave such a will, which will lead to killing of horses and how will anyone benefit from parts of horses. In the mean while a horse trader arrives on the horse. The brothers ask the trader to resolve this issue. The trader studies the will and then says 'If you all agree and don't object, then, can I add my one horse to your 17 horses and then distribute the horses as per the will.' The brothers agree. And then as per the will, the trader gives half the stock (18/2) i.e. 9 horses to the eldest. Then he gives 1/9th the stock (18/9) i.e. 2 horses to the middle brother and finally give 1/3rd of the stock (18/3) i.e. 6 horses to the youngest brother. The trader takes back his remaining horse and walks off.
The 18th horse that the trader added to the stock was like "Maya". It was brought into equation to solve the problem. Once the problem is solved you don't think or worry about it.
In another way it is like the 'X' we use to solve the mathematical equations. Once you get the value, later 'X' is discarded. Now it does not matter if someone asks to use 'X'or 'Y' or 'Z' to solve the equation. All three (X,Y and Z) will help in solving the problem.
* When a police chief has committed a murder and when he is appointed as the head of investigation agency to find the murderer, what one will expect? Is it possible that the murder will ever be found? The police chief will try to erase the proof or will manufacture evidence against someone else and present this person as the culprit. The police chief will never allow the 'Truth' to come out for his own destruction.
Similarly, our 'Mind' IS ignorance (unreal / inert) and if one tries to use mind to find the'Truth', we will never succeed. The mind will always divert us to the outside world of sense objects (that is its dharma). It does not want to turn inwards for its own destruction.
* You can give only what you own:
I cannot give Taj Mahal as gift to someone.
Similarly to surrender and give our Body-Mid-Intellect to Lord or Guru, one should first own the Body-Mind-Intellect (BMI). Owning means one should have this BMI under their control. If a person is slave to the whimsical of BMI, he cannot surrender the BMI. A slave cannot sell his master! Let us take the other example, a man owns a huge land. In this land there are some tigers. He cannot sell the tigers unless he captures, subdues and puts it in a cage. Once the tiger is caged, he can sell it.
Similarly, we first need to own or capture our BMI and then we can surrender it.
What does owning or capturing mean? It means our BMI is well disciplined and regulated. As far as the mind is concerned, it means the mind is sufficiently purified and the'tamas' and 'rajas' gunas are purged to make 'sattva' sufficiently the most dominant guna. This is where developing qualities like Satyam, Ahimsa, Karuna, Muditha, Aparigrah, etc help in increasing the 'sattva'. They constitute a very important practice. Without such qualities no mater how intelligent you are, you will never reach the Truth.
Other way to look at is. When we gift something we make sure the gift is good and clean. We don't give something that is filthy. So when we want to offer our BMI to Lord or Guru, we should make sure it is clean and filled with 'sattva' guna.
* The urge to know or challenge or raise difficult questions is the tendency of the Intellect. Some people (like me, when I started the spiritual journey) just enjoy in such games. We want to know everything intellectually without any holes in the theory. Knowing theoretically and logically becomes our passion. We don't have patience to wait and we want instance knowledge intellectually. Even to earn a PhD, related to material worldly science takes anywhere from 18-22 years of education. But when it comes to spiritual field we want it instantly. Today's education is dominantly theoretical. We expect the same thing in spiritual field. But in spiritual field one needs to have parallel practice. It involves inner transformation. Actually we are THAT TRUTH, what needs to be done is remove the covering of BMI i.e. identification with BMI. More learned we are, the more we try to use our intellect. We question more to the very minutest level and that too all theoretical, with no practice or experience to follow.
We have too much faith in our intellect and want to comprehend IT intellectually. Intellect is inert and finite it cannot comprehend the Infinite. Use intellect to guide and discipline the mind.
* Keep bombarding the mind:
Mind keeps rolling back to its habit. So one needs to keep the mind bombarded with the spiritual knowledge + reflection + contemplation + meditation. Expose the mind to more and more Satsangs, discourses and then follow them with sufficient practice. It takes a sculpture millions of hammerings on the chisel to remove the excess stone, before the hidden idol is revealed. It is a long meticulous, concentrated, deliberate, prolonged, sustained and disciplined effort. The sculpture has a goal and a vision, accompanied with faith in what lies inside the stone and faith in his efforts.
For a spiritual sculpture one needs to have continuous, un-interrupted, sustained, un-broken focus on the"I" (Self / Atman / Brahman) and not "i" (jiva / individual). He needs the faith that "I" (Changeless Truth) is the only Existence and "i"' is the covering. He needs the faith in the method (adopted from scriptures / Guru) and in his abilities. He has a goal and a process and undivided attention and effort. He knows his relentless practice will finally take him "Home" has so many others before him have done it in the past. (I challenged 'how can the finite cover the infinite'. Intellect will always find holes in all theories. Suspiciousness is one of the intellects dharma. I kept this issue in pending file, after sometime, the Sun and Clouds analogy from Atma bodh resolved this issue.)
* We cannot keep our legs in two boats:
Many of us try to hang on to worldly gains and on top of it we want spiritual gains. One is outward journey and other one is inward journey. They are like two boats going in apposite directions. Trying to keep one leg in each will either takes us no where or will drown us. Decide in which boat you want to travel.
A diabetic person can't keep eating sweet along with medicine to control the sugar level. Every disease needs a prolonged period of medicine at regular intervals. Trying to consume all the medicine in one go will not cure the disease. Similarly, spiritual practice is needed for a prolonged period. There is no short cut or instance liberation.
* Bottom line:
A drop of practice is better than an ocean of theories. (Sri Aurobindo)
(Note: Most of these notes are gathered from various discourses and study groups conducted by Chinmaya Mission. They are pointers and serve as personal reminder to my mind. The quality of writing is neither cohesive nor great but it helps serve my purpose to remind my highly volatile mind.)

Sensual hope deludes, spiritual hope delivers We all need hope.. Without hope, life becomes unbearable, even unlivable. But we need to choose carefully where we pin our hope, lest we be misled.

Suppose we are lost in a desert and see mirages around us. If we hope to find water in a mirage, that hope will delude and destroy us. But suppose a reliable guide appears and promises to lead us to an oasis. Putting our hope in that guide will keep us moving and will save our life.
The world we live in is like a vast desert. Here, we crave for pleasure and are captivated by myriad sense objects. However, these objects are like mirages – they promise us immense pleasure, but deliver at best just a few drops of pleasure. And we have ourselves experienced this anti-climax, repeatedly. Yet we hope that the next sensual indulgence will make us happy. Such a hope entraps us in worldly consciousness, increasingly alienated from our spiritual identity. This sensual hope deludes and destroys us.
Thankfully, we have a reliable guide: Krishna, our indwelling Lord. He is not just a guide to the oasis; he is himself the oasis, for he is the reservoir of all pleasure. When we connect lovingly with him, we start accessing and relishing his attractiveness. Bhakti-yoga is the process that establishes and enriches our loving connection with Krishna – it is the path from the desert to the oasis.
While treading this path, whenever we feel discouraged in our bhakti practice, we can take hope from Krishna's assurance that he swiftly delivers the devoted (Bhagavad-gita 12.07).
This hope in Krishna's benevolence will energize us to practice bhakti determinedly till we become lovingly absorbed in him. On thus reaching that divine oasis, we can drink fully and forever from the ocean of his unlimited glories.
Think it over:
• Why are sense objects like a mirage?
• How is Krishna like the oasis?
• How does hope in Krishna deliver us?

You say, 'I have fallen ill, or I am in good health', and so on. That is because you feel that the body is 'you'; whereas you are really only the Atma, with the five sheaths (Panca-koshas) superimposed on it. This misunderstanding is the result of the education system prevalent now, which teaches that the bliss one derives from the senses is all the bliss that one can get. It does not disclose to the individual the eternal source of bliss that one has within oneself. There is no training in the art of acquiring mental peace. No one is told the secret of attaining the state of equanimity amidst the confusion of modern civilisation. Everyone is induced to float with the current that drags humanity down to fear, anxiety, and despair. Life today is similar to the situation when the master of the house is restricted to a tasteless regimen while the members of the family revel in a banquet. The senses revel without limit, but the Atma is ignored.

- Divine Discourse, Oct 18, 1963.

Live in the constant thought and company of God. - Baba

Devotees must not be agitated by controversies promoted by people who have no divine or intuitive experience. You must all endeavor to be free from anxiety and fear, pride and envy. All of you have four enemies intent on ruining you - anger, envy, hatred and the horde of desires. You must regard both high and low as roles allotted to you in the Divine play. Always remember, whenever you insult, injure or reject anyone, you are, indeed inflicting them on the Loving God you adore. You can not reap the harvest of grace or the bliss from the Divine if you sow spiritual ardour on a heart full of the weeds of greed and hate. The basic moral prescription for any devotee who aspires to be near and dear to the Avatar is, 'Worship God and offer love to Him in every living being.
