To say that God is the prime cause of everything is true to a certain extent, but you are not thrust by Him into an iron cage of destiny from which there is no escape. Do not blame fate or the stars for your condition. He has endowed you with discrimination and detachment, and also with a sense of awe and wonder; you have to use these for attaining Him. Though bound, you are not entirely incapacitated. A cow that is tethered to a post by means of a rope can walk around it and graze on all the area that the rope can traverse; when all the grass therein has been eaten, perhaps the master might loosen the knot and tether it to another different post! Graze freely as far as the rope allows, but do not stray far from the post and pull at the rope, then you will inflict pain on your neck.

Fulfilling our every desire won't make us happy, focusing on our most important desire will We all have many desires that remain unfulfilled because we don't have the necessary resources. For example, we may want to wear the trendiest clothes, drive the fastest cars or own the biggest houses. But we may not be able to afford these – and so we may feel dissatisfied.

Most people spend their life slaving to earn enough so that they can fulfill their many desires. Amidst such slaving, one question is rarely asked: will fulfilling our desires make us happy? While our reflexive answer may be obviously yes, deeper thought may give us cause for pause.
Our desires are countless. And each desire can expand in countless ways. For example, we may desire a grand house. If we succeed in getting one, we may then desire hundreds of accouterments to go with or enhance the house's grandness. Such desires will keep us endlessly indentured and unfulfilled.
To prevent such perpetual discontentment, we need to choose which desires to fulfill. We do shortlist, but our shortlist is not based on which desire is most important, but on which desire seems most tempting. But the most tempting desires are rarely, if ever, the most fulfilling.
Which desire is the most important and most fulfilling? The desire that connects us with our core, thereby filling us with meaning, purpose and joy.
Gita wisdom explains that we are at our core spiritual beings, parts of the all-attractive whole, Krishna. Whatever we find attractive reflects just a spark of his supreme all-attractiveness (10.41). If we become attracted to him with spiritual love, we gain the supreme fulfillment.
Focusing on Krishna who is our most important desire is therefore the expressway to happiness. Indeed, those who turn away from external pleasures and turn inward to him attain imperishable happiness (05.21).
Think it over:
Why will fulfilling desires not lead to fulfillment? How do we shortlist our desires? Why is Krishna our most important desire? https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gitadaily.com%2F%3Fp%3D20252&picture=http://www.gitadaily.com/wp-content/images/Bhagavad-Gita-Chapter-05-Text-21.jpg http://twitter.com/share?text=Fulfilling%20our%20every%20desire%20won%E2%80%99t%20make%20us%20happy%2C%20focusing%20on%20our%20most%20important%20desire%20will&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gitadaily.com%2F%3Fp%3D20252&hashtags= https://plus.google.com/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gitadaily.com%2F%3Fp%3D20252 http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gitadaily.com%2F%3Fp%3D20252&media=http://www.gitadaily.com/wp-content/images/Bhagavad-Gita-Chapter-05-Text-21.jpg&description=We%20all%20have%20many%20desires%20that%20remain%20unfulfilled%20because%20we%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20the%20necessary%20resources.%20For%20example%2C%20we%20may%20want%20to%20wear%20the%20trendiest%20clothes%2C%20drive%20the%20fastest%20cars%20or%20own%20the%20biggest%20houses.%20But%20we%20may%20not%20be%20able%20to%20afford%20these%20%E2%80%93%20and%20so%20we%20may%20feel%20dissatisfied.Most%20people%20spend... http://bhagavadgitaclass.com/bhagavad-gita-chapter-05-text-21
